BOX SCORE - Game #1 | Game #2

Sophomore Laura Santie (pictured with associate head coach Heather Brown) had a big day offensively for the Warriors, including her first career home run and five RBIs.

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.) went a combined 4-for-6 with a home run and 5 runs batted in, as Corban’s softball team earned a non-conference split with Northwest Christian, 5-2 & 2-3, on Wednesday at James Park.

Game 1 – Corban 5, Northwest Christian 2

Santie capped the Warriors scoring when she slammed a two-run double and drove in three runs in leading Corban’s softball squad to its second win of the season, as the Warriors won the first game of a double header with Northwest Christian, 5-2, at James Park Wednesday.

Santie, who totaled four hits and five RBIs over the twin bill, and winning pitcher, senior Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.) hammered back-to-back doubles to account for three of the four Corban runs scored in the third inning to gain the win. Sophomore Megan Lamson (Medford, Ore.) had an RBI single scoring sophomore pinch-runner Shelby Raichl (Astoria, Ore.) to open the scoring in third. Raichl replaced senior Andrea Hansen (Canby, Ore.) on the bases after Hansen began the inning with a single.

Sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) doubled and stole third, setting up Santie’s RBI grounder to complete the Warriors’ scoring in the fifth. Batey had two hits and two runs scored in the contest and was joined by Hiatt, sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) and freshman Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) with two hits apiece for Corban.

Hiatt notched her second complete-game win in as many starts, scattering seven Beacon hits without yielding an earned run. Northwest Christian scored two runs on a pair of errors in the third, but Hiatt held the Beacons in check through the final four stanzas, giving up only three hits and striking out two.

Game 2 – Northwest Christian 3, Corban 2

Santie hammered a two-run home run and freshman pitcher Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) limited the Beacons to just four hits, but it wasn’t enough, as Northwest Christian prevailed 3-2 in the finale.

Santie was a perfect 3-for-3 in the loss to finish the day 4-for-6 with 5 RBIs and one run scored. Batey clubbed her second double of the afternoon in the night cap and scored three times on the day.  Santie’s homer in the sixth, a deep shot to left field, was the Warriors’ first homer of the year and the sophomore outfielder’s first round-tripper of her career.

Sailors, who recorded the 4-hit complete game, gave up six walks and three runs (all earned) while recording seven strikeouts.

Corban is now 2-8, while Northwest Christian is 13-7 on the season.  The Warriors will be next in action on Friday, March 24th, when they kick off Cascade Collegiate Conference action against Oregon Tech beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Klamath Falls.
