BOX SCORES - GAME #1 | GAME #2

Sophomore Caylin Goss gave Corban its first win of the season thanks to a game-winning 7th inning single in the first game versus Western Oregon at WOU Field.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) knocked in the game-winning run, as Corban’s softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 3-2 win in game one, while Western Oregon out-scored its visitors 9-5 in the second game as the two squads split in non-conference softball action at the WOU Softball Field.

In the opener, the game sped along at warp speed with nary a hit until the bottom of the sixth inning.  The host Wolves then broke open a 0-0 game when Lydia Foster laced a two-out triple, followed by back-to-back doubles by Trina Dorn and Hannah James.

With WOU’s Christina Cooke twirling a one-hitter, sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) led off the top of the seventh with a single, and an error followed to jump-start a rally for the visitors.  A walk then loaded the bases with no outs, and sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.) then singled to pull the Warriors to within one run (2-1).  Another WOU error tied then game at 2-2, and two outs later, Goss drove in the winning run with a single to centerfield.

Senior starter Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.) went all seven innings and scattered seven hits to pick up the win for Corban, while Cooke took the loss despite fanning 11 batters and giving up no earned runs.

In the nightcap, Western Oregon built up an 8-2 lead in a game that was eventually called after six innings because of darkness.  The Wolves banged out eight hits, including two each by Dorn and Britni Mink as they cruised to the win.  James drove in three runs for the host, including a two-run single in a three-run third inning for the Wolves.

Freshman Becca Shelamar (Central Point, Ore.) had two hits for the Warriors, while Batey had a two-run double for her team.

Corban is now 1-7, while Western Oregon moved to 3-11 on the season.  The Warriors will be next in action on Wednesday, March 22nd, when they play a rescheduled double header against Northwest Christian beginning at 2:00 p.m. at James Park in Eugene, Oregon.
