TACOMA, Wash. - Junior Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) sent a pitch over the left field wall in the top of the sixth inning and sophomore Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) struck out 6 batters during the first of two games Wednesday versus the Loggers of Puget Sound, but Corban's softball team dropped both games, 6-1 & 12-0.

The Warriors came out of the gate slow, giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 errors in the opening three innings of the first game. However, the team stood strong in its final four at bats and recorded 6 hits including Batey's solo-homerun. Sophomore Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) and freshman Siriana Guest (Salem, Ore.) aided the attempted comeback with matching 2-for-3 performances at the plate.

Sailors went the length of the game in the circle, picking up the loss in the first game after fanning 6 Puget Sound batters and giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and 1 walk. The winning pitcher was the Loggers' Victoria Raeburn, who had 6 strike outs of her own and gave up lone earned run on 8 hits. Raeburn was relieved in the final inning of play by Allie Hooks, who struck out two batters in Corban's last at bat.

Gaylord and Guest remained hot at the plate in the day's second game. They each tallied the Warriors' only hits on matching 1-for-2 performances. Guest cranked a pitch to center field and made it safely to second in the second inning and Gaylord singled to the Loggers' third baseman Kelli Ishii in the top of the fifth inning.

Corban's junior Kelley Seaton (Salem, Ore.) started, pitched for two innings, grabbed the Warriors' lone strike out of the second game, and gave up 7 runs (just 2 earned) on 6 hits and 1 walk. Sophomore Karlee Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) relieved Seaton and pitched 2 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 2 hits and 3 walks. Hooks, who started the day's second game, picked up the win for the host team on a 4 innings, 6 strike outs, 1 hit, and 2 walks performance. Puget Sound's Lindsey Janes pitched the fifth and final inning, snatching 1 strike out and allowing 1 hit.

The losses drop Corban's softball team record to 1-5-1 overall. With the back-to-back wins, the Loggers improve their undefeated record to 7-0 overall. Corban will be in action next Tuesday, March 13th, when the Warriors have their first home games of the year against NCAA Division II member Western Oregon beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
