McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.) was part of all three Warrior runs thanks to a combined 1-for-4 performance with one run scored and 2 runs batted in, but it was not enough as Corban’s softball team dropped both games to Linfield, 7-2 & 9-1, in its first double header of the season.
In the first game, the host Wildcats scored in each of the first four innings, while Corban put up their lone runs in the second inning when Santie drove in senior Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.) and freshman Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) with a double to left field.
In game two, Linfield grabbed a three-run lead in the second inning and never looked back thanks to a complete game performance by starting pitcher Erika Hancock, who went 6.0 innings, allowed 1 run (1 earned) on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.
Corban scored its lone run in the 4th inning when Santie walked and Hiatt doubled to right field scoring the 5-foot-5 Seattle Christian High School graduate from first.
Overall, Linfield got superb pitching from starting pitchers Brittany Miller, who struck out 10 Warrior hitters, and Hancock. The duo held the Warriors to 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 17 Corban hitters.
Corban got a combined 8.1 innings out of Hiatt, who allowed 12 runs (9 earned) on 16 hits and suffered her second and third losses of the season. Freshman reliever Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) took the ball for a combined 3.1 innings of work, allowed 7 hits, and struck out two Wildcats.
The Warriors recorded 8 hits on the day, as sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) and Hiatt led the team with two hits each. Sophomore Megan Lamson (Medford, Ore.), Santie, sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.), and Sailors each recorded 1 hit on the afternoon.
Corban drops to 0-6, while Linfield improves to 2-0. The Warriors will be next in action on Saturday, March 11th, when they travel south to Eugene for an afternoon double header against Northwest Christian College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
