OLYMPIA, Wash. – Junior Caleb Louvier (SeaTac, Wash.) scored a pair of goals, as Corban's men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 4-1 victory over The Evergreen State College on Saturday and potentially grabbed the fourth and final playoff spot for the NAIA Region I Tournament.
Coming into today's game, Corban knew that if they could get full Longo points then it might have a chance of sliding into the post-season. Thanks to the 3-goal victory, the Warriors have to wait and see what the outcome of the Northwest-Warner Pacific game is later tonight in Kirkland, Washington.
Louvier began the scoring in the 7th minute off an assist from fellow junior midfielder Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.). Crain began the play with a nifty pass to Louvier, who dribbled around a defender before firing a shot into the left side of the net past Evergreen's keeper.
Corban's 1-0 advantage lasted until the 25th minute when Evergreen's James Pratt scored the Geoducks' lone goal off a combo assist from Cody Lofquist and Matt Curry. Evergreen attacked the Warrior goal before Pratt unloaded a shot from the center of the penalty box for his 2nd goal of the season.
Junior Quinn Neely-Gallagher (Nelson, New Zealand) put the Warriors back up by a goal in the 36th minute when he teamed with sophomore Tyler Grove (North Marion, Ore.) and junior Kevin Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.). Franklin began the play with a long throw-in to Grove, who flicked the ball with his head to an awaiting Neely. After gathering the ball, Neely tapped the ball into the net from ten feet out for his 2nd goal of the season. Neely's goal capped the first half scoring despite the Warriors being out shot by 3 (9-6) over the first 45 minutes of play.
In the 61st minute, senior forward Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Marshall received a pass from Louvier and then dribbled around a pair of defenders, beat Evergreen's keeper, and had a wide-open shot into the right side of the net for his third goal in the last two games.
Louvier capped the scoring in the 82nd minute when he teamed with Marshall for his 12th goal of the season. After Evergreen's Lofquist received a yellow card in the wanning seconds of the 81st minute, Corban attacked the Geoducks' goal with Marshall and Louvier ending the on-slaught just over 40 seconds later.
Corban's freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) recorded a game-high 4 saves to pick up his 6th collegiate victory. Meanwhile, Evergreen's Justin Kobbe also registered a game-high 4 saves, while facing 13 Corban shots.
Corban concludes the regular season with an overall record of 9-7-2, 6-5-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Evergreen falls to 4-12-2 overall, 3-8-1 in CCC action. Depending on the playoff scenario, the Warriors could return to action on Friday, November 3rd, in the semi-finals of the NAIA Region I Tournament hosted by Westminster in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Playoff pairings, as well as all-conference teams will be announced following the annual men's soccer coaches meeting on Sunday. Be sure to check back at www.gowarriorsgo.com for further announcements regarding men's soccer!!!!
