BOX SCORE
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Coming off a convincing win over Albertson on Friday, Corban’s men’s soccer team traveled north to the state of Washington and dropped a heart-breaker in overtime, 2-1, to Northwest University on Thursday afternoon.
Corban freshman Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brazil) began the scoring in the 39th minute when he took a pass from fellow freshman Eric Branch (Keizer, Ore.) and netted his third goal of the season giving the Warriors the early 1-goal advantage. Karczeski (pictured right) is the lone freshman foreigner on this season's roster and has tallied 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in his first intercollegiate season.
Corban carried the 1-goal advantage into halftime and seemed to control the offensive flow in the second half, before Northwest’s Nathan Zuspan received a pass from Josh Bean and tied the game at 1-all in the 70th minute.
Over the final twenty minutes, neither team was able to crack the opposing defense forcing the extra period.
Eight minutes into overtime, Northwest’s Geoff Goodwill took a pass from Bryan Graff and scored the game-winner and possibly ended Corban’s hopes of advancing the regional tournament for the third time in four seasons.
Senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) played the entire game for Corban and recorded a game-high 6 saves, while Northwest split time in goal between Bryan Graff and Everett Adams with each recording 3 and 4 saves respectively.
With the loss, Corban falls to 8-8-1 overall, 5-6 in CCC play. Northwest improves to 5-11-0 overall, 3-7 in CCC play. The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, October 29th, when they host The Evergreen State College beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
Bentley and two other seniors, Mike Geleynse (Bellingham, Wash.) and Michael Otto (Vianopolis, Brazil), will be honored during halftime, as they will be playing their final regular season home game in a Warrior uniform.
