SALEM, Ore. – In a must-win game for Corban’s men’s soccer team, junior Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) spearheaded the victory with 3 goals and 1 assist, as the Warriors scored a convincing 6-1 victory over Albertson College of Idaho on Friday afternoon.

Marshall (pictured right), who was appearing in his second game following a knee injury that sidelined him for 3 games, got the scoring started in the 10th minute when he chested down a 1-2 combo pass from sophomore Jordan Rowland (Kirkland, Wash.) and junior James Young (Estacada, Ore.) and one-timed a shot from 18 yards out into the upper left hand corner.

Sophomore Andrew Brown (Madrid, Spain) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 14th minute when he one-timed a combo pass from freshman Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brazil) and junior Aaron Conger (Fairbanks, Alaska) into the lower left hand corner.

Karczeski put Corban up by a comfortable 3 goals just 21 minutes into the first half when he scored his 2nd goal of the season on a similar play to the Warriors’ previous goal with the assists coming from Marshall and Conger.

Marshall capped the Warriors’ scoring in the first half when he redirected a free kick from Brown into the lower corner for the 4-goal advantage.

Albertson got on the board late in the first half when Mitch White took a long pass from goalkeeper Rob Erichson and slipped the ball underneath Corban’s goalie for the Coyotes’ lone goal of the game in the 34th minute.

Marshall completed his 2nd hat trick of the season in the 49th minute when he one touched a cross from sophomore Quinn Neely (Nelson, New Zealand) into the lower corner of the net.

Corban’s scoring ended in the 73rd minute when Neely headed home a corner kick from senior Mike Geleynse (Bellingham, Wash.) for his 3rd goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) played the first 79 minutes and made 3 saves before giving way to sophomore goalkeeper James DelCastillo (Fairbanks, Alaska) for the final 11 minutes.

With the win, Corban improves to 8-7-1 overall, 5-5 in CCC play.  Albertson falls to 7-8-0 overall, 6-3 in CCC play.  The Warriors are next in action on Thursday, October 27th, when they travel north for a match up with Northwest University beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Kirkland, Washington.
