Warriors earn much needed win over Thunderbirds of Cascade

October 15, 2005

PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore defender Jordan Rowland (Kirkland, Wash.) handed out 2 assists, as Corban’s men’s soccer team grabbed a much needed 4-1 win over Cascade on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Quinn Neely (Nelson, New Zealand) got the scoring started in the 16th minute off an assist from Rowland (pictured right).  Neely unloaded a shot from 10 yards out into the upper right hand corner giving Corban the early 1-goal advantage.

Neely’s goal was the lone goal in the first half before freshman Tyler Grove (North Marion, Ore.) scored what would be the game-winning goal off another assist from Rowland in the 47th minute.

Less than a minute later, senior Michael Otto (Vianopolis, Brazil) scored his second penalty kick goal in the past two games giving Corban the insurmountable 3-goal advantage.

Cascade scored their lone goal in the 65th minute when Mark Towers scored an unassisted goal beating Corban’s freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.), who was making his first appearance of the season.

Reigning conference and regional Player of the Week Caleb Louvier (SeaTac, Wash.) capped the game’s scoring in the 79th minute when he rebounded a shot by freshman Wade Rogerson (Molalla, Ore.).  The 5-foot-10 sophomore scored his 6th goal in the last three games and moved within 3 goals of team and conference leader Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.).

Senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) played the first 28 minutes before giving way to Franklin for the final 62 minutes.  The keeper duo combined to make 3 saves, with Franklin having to make the trifecta of saves in order to secure the win.

With the win, Corban improves to 7-6-1 overall, 4-4 in Cascade Collegiate play.  Cascade falls to 1-9-1 overall, 0-7 in Cascade Collegiate play.  The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, October 18th, when they travel back to Portland for a match up with Warner Pacific beginning at 7:00 p.m.
