Warriors fall to nationally-ranked Cavs of Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. - In its first weekend game since the end of September, Corban's men's soccer team fell to the NAIA's No. 28-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia, 2-0, despite a game-high six saves by junior James DelCastillo (Fairbanks, Alaska) on Saturday at The Yard.

For the second straight game, the Warriors came away from a match-up with Concordia on the losing end of a 2-0 affair. Earlier this season, Corban watched as the Cavaliers scored a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes of the game and rode that momentum to the victory.

In today's game, neither team cracked the net until the 42nd minute when Concordia's Bryan Iotte notched his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Kossivi Alokpovi. Alokpovi began the play by sending a shot on goal that was saved by DelCastillo only to have the ball trickle back to the foot of Iotte, who sent a shot into the bottom left corner from seven yards out.

Just over 30 minutes later, Concordia got a much-needed insurance goal when the Cavs' Tyler Camp scored his eighth goal of the season (third this year against the Warriors) off an assist from Joey Graham. Graham started the action with a 25-yard cross from the left side into a mix of players before Camp capitalized on a shot from eight yards out.

Corban was only able to register four total shots (all in the first half), as the Cavaliers' defense put the clamps on the Warriors' offensive attack in the second half and held Corban to zero shots over the final 45 minutes. Meanwhile, Concordia rifled off 19 total shots in the game, including an 11-0 advantage in the second half.

Even though DelCastillo allowed both Concordia goals, the 5-foot-11 net-minder recorded more saves than his counterpart, Concordia's Garrett Staples. The Cavaliers' goalkeeper needed to make a mere one save en route to picking up his conference-leading seventh shutout of the season.

With the loss, Corban falls to 5-7-2 overall, 3-5-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, Concordia extends its conference-leading record to 11-3-0 overall, 9-1-0 in CCC action. The Warriors are back in action on Thursday, October 18th, when they host the Thunderbirds of Cascade College in Cascade Collegiate Conference action beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Warrior Field.
