PORTLAND, Ore. -
For the second time this year, junior goalkeeper James DelCastillo (Fairbanks, Alaska) was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as the 5-foot-11 net-minder helped lead Corban to a 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Willamette in the Capitol Cup game.
This is the fifth week in a row that a member of either the Corban men's or women's soccer programs were named as conference Player of the Week. The women's team had four straight POWs with DelCastillo earning his first-ever conference Defensive Player of the Week award three weeks ago.
Last week, DelCastillo played all 90 minutes between the pipes in Corban's victory over NCAA Division III member Willamette on Tuesday. Despite allowing the game's first goal in the 4th minute, the 5-foot-11 junior regrouped and recorded seven saves en route to helping the Warriors capture their second straight Capitol Cup.
So far this season, DelCastillo has allowed a mere nine goals in 565 minutes and 30 seconds and leads the team with a 1.43 Goals Against Average (GAA). The Warrior keeper ranks third in the conference in GAA, while sitting second in save percentage at 77.5% trailing only fellow teammate and sophomore Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.).
Corban currently sits at 5-5-2 overall, 3-3-2 in conference play. The Warriors are back in action on Thursday, October 11th, when they travel north to Portland for a rematch with the Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at 7:00 p.m.
