Louvier lifts Warriors to come-from-behind victory over Northwest

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Caleb Louvier (SeaTac, Wash.) scored a season and career-high 4 goals, as Corban’s men’s soccer team defeated Northwest, 4-3, in come-from-behind fashion on Saturday afternoon.
Louvier (pictured right) got the scoring started 91 seconds into the game when he took a one-two combo pass from freshman Tyler Grove (North Marion, Ore.) and sophomore Jordan Rowland (Kirkland, Wash.). Rowland began the play by sending a long ball from the left side of the field to Grove on the right side of the field, who then cut towards the middle and found Louvier with a perfect pass en route to the goal.
Northwest countered back in the 9th minute when Kyle Bryant scored an unassisted goal on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, tying the game at 1-1.
In a first half that ended in a tie, physical play over the first forty-five minutes resulted in 17 total fouls (10 on Corban & 7 on Northwest) being called.
Forty-four seconds into the second half, Northwest’s Chris Peterson scored an unassisted goal from 2 yards out when he directed a loose ball into the back of the net giving the Eagles the lead, 2-1.
Less than two minutes later, Louvier knotted the game at 2-2 when he scored on a pass from senior Michael Otto (Vianopolis, Brazil) in the 48th minute. Otto dribbled the ball through numerous Eagle defenders before finding Louvier all alone in the front of the goal.
Louvier completed the hat trick when he rifled a free kick into the lower corner of the goal from just outside the 18-yard box in the 48th minute giving Corban the slight 1-goal advantage, 3-2.
Less than two minutes later, Northwest’s Chris Chapman tied the game for the third time via a corner kick from Bryant in the 60th minute.
With the score knotted at 3-apiece, Louvier scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute when he took a one-two combo pass from freshman Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brazil) and Rowland. Rowland began the play by dribbling down the left sideline before lofting a pass towards the net that Karczeski flicked onto Louvier, who proceeded to rifle it into the back of the net for the final goal of the game.
Corban’s senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) played the entire game and recorded 6 saves, while Northwest’s goalkeeper Bryan Graff recorded a game-high 8 saves.
With the win, Corban improves to 6-5-1 overall, 3-3 in Cascade Collegiate play. Northwest falls to 3-8-0 overall, 1-4 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Thursday, October 13th, when they host Cascade Conference leading Concordia University beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field. |
