KIRKLAND, Wash. – Senior forward Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) scored his team-leading 8th goal and registered his team-leading 19th point of the season, as Corban's men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with the Eagles of Northwest on Saturday.
Both teams battled for 110 minutes on the field at Lake Washington High School on a crisp fall evening and despite being out shot by 13, 27-14, freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) came up with a game-high 11 saves en route to securing his second tie of the season. Northwest's net-minder Kyle Wall needed only 4 saves for the Eagles to help Northwest earn its first deadlock of the season.
Marshall put the Warriors in the lead with his goal coming at 23:10 in the first half on an assist from sophomore midfielder Mark Schubert (Yakima, Wash.) and the lead held up until the 88th minute. With the game coming down to the end, Northwest's Jeff Vander Pol knocked a header into the left corner of the net off the corner kick of teammate Chad Thornton to send the game into extra periods.
Both teams had shots in the two over time periods, but neither team could put the ball into the net to get the victory.
Corban is now 5-5-2 overall, 3-3-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Northwest finds themselves at 5-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 in CCC action. The Warriors return to action on Thursday, October 12th, when they travel up to Portland for a match-up with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) No. 27-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 3:00 p.m.
