SALEM, Ore. – Senior forward Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) registered his third career hat trick and junior midfielder Andrew Brown (Madrid, Spain) scored a goal, as Corban's men's soccer team shutout the visiting Geoducks of The Evergreen State College, 4-0, on Thursday.

Marshall began the scoring in the 10th minute when he took a throw-in from junior midfielder Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.), dribbled towards the end line, and fired a shot into the far right side of the net for his 5th goal of the season.

Almost thirty minutes later, Marshall netted his second goal of the game on a rebound. Freshman defender Mark Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) fired a shot off the right post onto the awaiting foot of Marshall, who calmly lofted the ball over a diving Geoduck keeper and into the back of the net.

Holding onto a two goal advantage, the Warriors got some huge stops from freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.), who ended with a game-high 11 saves. With Evergreen pressing offensively, Corban's defense stepped up its play and controlled the penalty box throughout the game by not allowing Evergreen any open looks at the goal.

After putting up the defensive wall, the Warriors added a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes when Marshall capped his three-goal performance with another unassisted score in the 79th minute. This time, the 5-foot-11 senior was the recipient of his own rebound that he caromed off the cross bar before regrouping and finding the back of the net for his 7th goal of the season.

With the clock winding down, Brown took a through ball from Crain, dribbled 30 yards, and unloaded a shot past Evergreen's net-minder to cap the game's scoring. The goal was Brown's first of the season (second of his career) and came with a mere 55 seconds remaining on the clock.

Franklin picked up his fourth collegiate victory, while registering his second career shutout in the process. So far this season, the 5-foot-10 net-minder has recorded a team-best 48 saves and allowed a mere 13 goals (1.78 Goals Against Average) in just over 658 minutes between the pipes.

Despite being out shot by six (22-16), the Warriors played a solid all-around game and ended a two-game losing streak to their opponents from the state of Washington. With the victory, Corban moves into a two-way tie for 3rd place in the conference standings with Albertson College of Idaho.

Corban improves to 5-5-1 overall, 3-3-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.  Evergreen falls to 3-6-1 overall, 2-3-0 in CCC action.  The Warriors return to action on Saturday, October 7th, when they travel north to Kirkland, Washington for a match-up with the Eagles of Northwest beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Lake Washington High School.
