October 1, 2005
BOX SCORE
CALDWELL, Idaho – Freshmen Eric Branch (Keizer, Ore.) and Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brzail) each scored a goal a 65-second span, while junior Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season, as Corban’s men’s soccer team shut out the Coyotes of Albertson, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Branch sent a Marshall (pictured right) cross towards right post in the 28th minute and flicked home the first goal for Corban. The goal was the freshman’s 4th of the season, which ties him for second of the team in that category.
Just a minute later, miscommunication by host Albertson allowed Karczeski (pictured right - #19 ) to get free outside the 18-yard box and he blasted home a shot in the upper V for his first collegiate goal.
Corban tacked on an insurance goal in the 70th minute, as Marshall took a nice slotted ball from senior Mike Geleynse (Bellingham, Wash.) and slammed home his conference-leading 11th goal of the year.
Albertson held a 19-14 edge in shots, but Warrior senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) kept the 'Yotes at bay, making nine saves - including three diving saves in the second half.
With the win, Corban improves to 5-4-1 overall, 2-2 in Cascade Collegiate play. Albertson falls to 2-7 overall, 2-2 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Thursday, October 6th, when they travel north to Olympia, Wash., for a match up with the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College beginning at 4:00 p.m. |
