Crain scores pair of goal in barn-burner with Knights of Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore.– In a high-scoring affair, Corban's men's soccer team outlasted Warner Pacific, 5-4, on Tuesday and defeated the Knights to snap a mini two-game losing streak.
Junior midfielder Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.) scored a pair of goals, while sophomore midfielder Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brazil) notched the game-wnning goal in the 71st minute.
Following junior midfielder Caleb Louvier's (SeaTac, Wash.) team-leading 7th goal of the season (unassisted) in the 20th minute, Warner Pacific's J.B. Cunha wasted no time and knotted the game at 1-all seven seconds later via a penalty kick after a Warrior foul was committed inside the box.
Less than ten minutes later, senior forward Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) regained the lead for the Warriors when he hooked up with sophomore defender Daniel Steffen (Clackamas, Ore.) in the 29th minute.
Cunha scored his second goal of the game (15 seconds later) on an assist from Rob Patterson for the second tie of the game.
The Knights' Chris Price scored at 34:39 with a header off a free kick by Justin Coughlin to take a 3-2 lead, but Corban answered 12 seconds later when Crain scored unassisted sending the match into halftime tied 3-3.
In the 51st minute, Crain hooked up with senior midfielder Aaron Conger (Fairbanks, Alaska) for his second goal of the game to give Corban a 4-3 lead.
In the 62nd minute, the score was tied for the fourth and final time on an unlucky own goal that came off the foot of Warner Pacific's Andrew Scott and was deflected into the goal by Corban.
In the 70th minute, Karczeski scored the game-winning goal off an assist from junior midfielder Andrew Brown (Madrid, Spain) that put the Warriors ahead for good, 5-4.
Freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) recorded 5 saves en route to picking up his team-leading 3rd victory of the season. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific's Brandon Mitalis registered a game-high 7 saves, while facing 22 Warrior shots.
Corban evens its record at 4-4-1 overall, 2-2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Warner Pacific falls to 2-4-0 overall, 1-2-0 in CCC action. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, September 30th, when the host the Coyotes of Albertson beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
