Warriors fall in final minutes to Concordia-Portland

September 24, 2005

PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) and freshman sensation Eric Branch (Keizer, Ore.) scored for Corban College, but it was not enough as the Warriors fell to the Cavaliers of Concordia, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Marshall scored his 10th goal of the season in the 28th minute off an assist from senior Michael Otto (Vianopolis, Brazil).  Marshall, who currently leads the Warriors in all three scoring categories, extended his goal streak to two games and has scored at least one goal in four of the Warriors’ last five games.

Concordia tied the game in the 35th minute when Jorge Arreguin took a pass from Jonathan Peru and Josh Carlson and scored the Cavaliers’ first goal of the game.

Both teams went into the half tied, but Corban came out in the 62nd minute and took the lead thanks to an unassisted goal by Branch.  Branch (pictured right) intercepted an attempted defensive clearance and scored his 3rd goal of the season.

The Warrior lead did not last long, as the host Cavaliers tied the game in the 72nd minute when Jeremy Wells put home the game’s lone penalty kick.

Concordia’s Mirzet Sacirovic tied the game when he took a pass from Luis Garcia and scored the Cavaliers’ third goal of the game and the game’s final goal with 82:28 on the clock.

Over the final 7 minutes and 32 seconds, the Warriors could not muster another goal and walked away from Portland with their third loss of the season and first in conference play.

Senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) played the entire game and recorded 3 saves, while Concordia’s Mike Selmo only had to make 1 save in helping to preserve the win.

With the loss, Corban falls to 4-3-1 overall, 1-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate play.  Concordia improves to 4-3-1 overall, 2-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate play.  The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, September 27th, when they host Warner Pacific beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
