PORTLAND, Ore. -
Senior Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.) scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute, as Corban's men's soccer team returned to its winning way thanks to a 4-3 victory over the Thunderbirds of Cascade on Tuesday at Williams and Smith Field.
Coming off back-to-back games against nationally-ranked opponents this past weekend in Southern California, Corban came out firing and in the fifth minute got on the board via a goal by freshman sensation Ayouba Moussa (Maradi, Niger). Senior co-captain Quinn Neely (Nelson, New Zealand) assisted on Moussa's fourth goal of the season for his first point this year.
Despite a game-tying goal by Cascade's Gerardo Cifuentes via a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, the Warriors did not back down and re-took the lead in the 43rd minute when Moussa scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway. The 6-foot-4 forward has scored Corban's last five goals dating back to the Warriors' 6-1 victory over Northwest Christian on August 31st.
Less than two minutes later, senior co-captain Caleb Louvier (SeaTac, Wash.) notched his fourth goal of the season when he dribbled through traffic and rifled a shot that eluded Cascade's net-minder to give Corban a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, Cascade got a pair of unanswered goals from Cifuentes and Nic Martinez. Cifuentes' second goal of the game came via another penalty kick, while Martinez teamed with Peter Pickett on a corner kick in the 78th minute to tie that game at 3-all.
With the game tied and the clock getting closer and closer to the 90th minute, Crain took a through ball from freshman Collin Box (Salem, Ore.) and dribbled to his left before sending a shot into the back of the net for his third goal of the season and second game-winning score in his final season donning the navy and gold.
Corban sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) manned the Warriors' net for the entire game and registered a game-high 10 saves, while Cascade's net-minder Anthony Trejo recorded a mere three saves while allowing all four Corban goals.
With the win, Corban is now 3-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, Cascade drops to 1-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 in CCC action. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, September 14th, when they continue Cascade Collegiate Conference play against the Coyotes of Albertson beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
