Louvier lifts Warriors to upset over NAIA's No. 21-ranked Simon Fraser

September 3, 2006

Junior midfielder Caleb Louvier scored his first goal of the season against the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser.

OLYMPIA, Wash. – After being held scoreless in its first game at the 2006 Arno Zoske Tournament, Corban's men's soccer team came back less than twenty-four hours later and upset the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser, 1-0, behind a game-winning goal by junior Caleb Louvier (Sea Tac, Wash.) on Sunday afternoon.

In the 73rd minute, Louvier took a bouncing ball combo pass from fellow junior Quinn Neely-Gallagher (Nelson, New Zealand) and senior Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.).  Marshall collected a bouncing ball in the midfield, passed off to Neely, who chipped the ball behind the Clan defense to a wide-open Louvier.  The 5-foot-10 midfielder collected the ball, went one-on-one with SFU's goalkeeper, and kneed the ball over a diving net-minder for the game's lone goal.

Today's goal was Louvier's first of the season and 18th of his two-plus year career.  Through three games this season, Marshall leads the team with 3 points (1 goal, 1 assist), while Louvier, Neely-Gallagher, and junior Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.) are tied with 2 points each.

Despite being out-shot 16-10, the Warriors made the most of their opportunities and a game-high 8 saves by freshman goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) to push Corban to its first victory of the season.  Franklin, who was playing in his first intercollegiate game, minded the net for the entire game to earn his first win as a Warrior and Corban's first victory versus a nationally-ranked opponent in over two seasons.

Simon Fraser's goalkeeper Thomas Lindley registered 3 saves for the nationally-ranked team from Burnaby, Canada.

Corban improves to 1-2 overall, while Simon Fraser falls to 1-2-1 on the season.  The Warriors will be next in action on Thursday, Sept. 7th, when they host NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
