Corban comes from behind in victory over Linfield

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Junior forward Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 34th minute, as Corban earned its first win of the season thanks to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Linfield on Saturday afternoon.
Linfield got on the board first in the 11th minute when senior Jason Wong rebounded a shot from junior Mike Grabast past Corban’s goalkeeper for the earlier lead.
Corban quickly tied the game at 1-apiece when Marshall scored his first goal of the season in the 13th minute from 20 yards out. Marshall unloaded a shot into the left hand corner for career goal number 32, which puts him 4th on the Warriors’ all-time career goals list.
Twelve minutes later, sophomore midfielder Joshua Crain (Olympia, Wash.) scored his team-leading 3rd goal of the season giving the Warriors a 2-1 advantage.
Less than nine minutes later, Marshall connected on his 2nd goal of the game when he hooked up with freshman Eric Branch (Keizer, Ore.) on a cross pass that Marshall shot off the ground into the corner of the net.
Despite the 3-1 halftime lead, Linfield narrowed the gap to one goal in the 53rd minute when freshman Bryan Alford rebounded a shot from senior Greg Schuft that had hit the post.
Senior goalkeeper Brett Bentley (Chandler, Ariz.) recorded 6 saves, while allowing 2 goals en route to recording his 1st win of the season.
Corban was out shot, 23-19, but held the advantage in shots on goal (12-8).
With the win, Corban improves to 1-0-1, while Linfield falls to 0-1. The Warriors are next in action on Monday, September 5th, when they take on Whitworth beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Linfield College. |
