Canadian team shuts out Warriors at Arno Zoske

September 2, 2006

Junior midfielder Andrew Brown registered a team-high two shots (both on goal) against British Columbia.

OLYMPIA, Wash. – In its first game at the 2006 Arno Zoske Tournament, Corban's men's soccer team struggled offensively and were handed a 3-0 loss at the hands of the University of British Columbia on Saturday evening.

The Thunderbirds got the scoring started in the 28th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick.  UBC's Michael Elliott put home the PK and gave the T-birds the early lead.

Six minutes before halftime, UBC stretched its lead to a pair of goals when Ryan Gianville hooked up with Steve Frazoa.  Frazoa found a wide-open Gianville with a pass that got behind the defensive line for a one-on-one match up with Corban's goalkeeper.

In the 82nd minute, British Columbia capped the scoring when Luke Sandilands scored an unassisted goal that ricocheted off a Corban defender.

As a team, Corban could muster only 7 shots (4 on goal), as they were led by junior Andrew Brown's (Madrid, Spain) team-high two shots (both on goal).

Sophomore goalkeeper James DelCastillo (Fairbanks, Alaska) played the entire game in goal, allowing all 3 goals, while making a game-high 7 saves.

Corban drops to 0-2 overall, while British Columbia improves to 1-1 on the season.  The Warriors will be next in action on Sunday, Sept. 3rd, when they conclude their play at the Arno Zoske Tournament against the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Simon Fraser beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Olympia, Washington.
