Warriors end four-game losing streak with win over ‘Yotes of Albertson

The senior trio of Eric Fiegi (left), Chris Lynn (center), and Joel Worcester (right) scored a combined 56 points in leading Corban to a much-needed 93-90 victory over Albertson College of Idaho.

CALDWELL, Idaho – Seniors Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.), Joel Worcester (Eugene, Ore.), and Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) led Corban’s men’s basketball team to their first win in two weeks, as the trio combined for 56 points in the Warriors’ 93-90 victory over Albertson on Wednesday night.

Fiegi surpassed his current head coach Justin Sherwood for 2nd on the all-time career points list in Corban history thanks to a game-high 36 points and 11 rebounds.  Fiegi, the NAIA Division II leader in points per game at 28.6, has scored 2,744 points over his 4-year career and moves into 3rd on the all-time points list in the state of Oregon among all four-year institutions.

Worcester made all 12 of his free throws, including a perfect 6-for-6 over the final minute, en route to scoring a season-high 18 points, while Lynn connected on 6-out-of-10 from beyond the 3-point line on his way to scoring a season-high 22 points.

Fiegi scored a game-high 36 points tonight and moved into 2nd place on the all-time career points list at Corban ahead of current head coach Justin Sherwood.

The senior trio helped Corban secure its first victory in the state of Idaho since the 2000-2001 season when the Warriors defeated Albertson, 77-73.

Ahead by 5 points (39-34) at halftime, Corban came out and shot an amazing 64.3% (18-for-28), while the host ‘Yotes shot 62.2% (23-for-37).  The Warriors were an unbelievable 20-for-21 (95.2%) from the free throw line, as Corban’s lone miss came when Fiegi misfired on his final attempt.

Both teams battled back and forth over the final minute with Corban secured three 3-point leads only to watch as the ‘Yotes pull within 1 each time.  Worcester hit back-to-back free throws with 6 seconds remaining and Albertson’s Derek Brown missed a 3-pointer from the corner as the buzzer sounded to give the Warriors the much-needed victory.

The Warriors shot 31-for-59 (52.5%) from the field, while Albertson shot 37-for-75 (49.3%).

Ike Stafford led Albertson with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Josh Owen, Brandon Nielsen, and Brown added 13, 11, and 10 points respectively.

With the win, Corban evens its record at 7-7, 2-2 in CCC play.  Albertson falls to 4-7 overall, 1-1 in CCC play.  The Warriors are next in action on Friday, December 30th, when they continue conference play against the Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Portland.
