Warriors suffer overtime loss to Lewis-Clark State College

SALEM, Ore. – In the final game of the 2005 Corban Classic, Corban’s men’s basketball team fell to NAIA Division I member and No. 23-ranked Lewis-Clark State in overtime, 87-82, despite a team and career-high 19 points by junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) and a game-high 21 rebounds by senior All-American Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) on Saturday night.

Down by 6 (65-59) with 5 minutes remaining in regulation, the Warriors used an 8-2 run over the next 4:21 to tie the game at 67-all. Fiegi tied the game via a free throw and then put Corban up by 1 point (68-67) with his second shot from the charity stripe. Junior Ryan Heil (Medford, Ore.) put the home team up by 2 points (69-67) when he made 1-of-2 free throws with 20 seconds on the clock. LCSC’s Eric Durret tied the game at 69-apiece when he made a jumper from the baseline with 6 seconds left. Senior Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) took the following in-bounds pass, drove the length of the floor and put up a shot from 3-point range that caromed off the front of the rim to a wide-open Heil waiting near the hoop for the rebound, but his put back tipped out as the buzzer sounded.
In the extra frame, the visiting L-C State was perfect from the floor (5-for-5), while making 8-out-of-11 free throws en route to securing their 10th win of the season.
Fiegi ended the game with 18 points, while Lynn and Heil added 16 points each. Freshman Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.), Lynn, and Sisler aided Fiegi on the boards with 6, 5, and 5 rebounds respectively.
Corban shot 32-for-80 (40.0%) from the field, while Lewis-Clark State shot 32-for-78 (41.0%).
Durret led all players with 36 points, while Jamal Harris and Jared Tikker added 17 and 13 points respectively. Harris and Chris Pitts led the LCSC Warriors with 12 rebounds each, while Keith Scarbrough, Durret, and Tikker pulled down 9, 5, and 5 rebounds respectively.
With the loss, Corban falls to 6-6, while Lewis-Clark State improves to 10-2. The Warriors get a much needed 10-day break and do not hit the court again until Tuesday, December 20th, when they return to Cascade Collegiate Conference action against Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:30 p.m. in La Grande.
