Fiegi sets single game career high in win over Bruins

November 22, 2005

SALEM, Ore. – In the home opener for Corban’s men’s basketball team, senior All-American Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) scored a career-high 44 points and tied the single game school record for blocked shots with a game-high 7 in leading the Warriors to a 108-100 win over George Fox on Tuesday night.

The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders behind some timely shooting from a quintet of perimeter shooters.  Senior Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.), junior Ryan Heil (Medford, Ore.), junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.), senior Joel Worcester (Eugene, Ore.), and freshman Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) all knocked down 3’s, as Corban paved the way for Fiegi (pictured right) inside.  The four-year player took advantage and scored 28 second half points in leading the Warriors to victory.

“We played really well tonight,” said Fiegi.  “Coach told us before the game that we needed to shut down their guards and hit the shots when needed.  Sis and Braun hit big 3’s for us, allowing us to step up the intensity, and put the pressure on the other team.  (George) Fox played well tonight, but this game is going to help us as we move through the season and into conference play.”

Along with Fiegi’s career-high, Lynn added 23 points, including 4-for-5 from three-point range.  Sisler and Heil also chipped in with 12 points apiece.  Fiegi led all players with a game-high 17 rebounds, while Heil and Sisler grabbed 8 and 7 rebounds respectively.

“We did well tonight,” said fourth-year head coach Justin Sherwood.  “We still have areas that we need to improve, especially on the defensive end of the floor.  Overall it was good to play this type of game where every possession is going to count.”

Up by 4 (99-95) with 43 seconds left, Heil nailed back-to-back free throws and then Corban put the game on ice, as they went 6-for-7 from the line over the final 33 seconds.

The Bruins were led by Chris Parker and Phil Weu-Heller’s team-high 20 points each, while Brent Satern and Aaron Schmick added 16 points apiece.  Scott Szalay led George Fox with a team-high 12 rebounds, while Heu-Weller and Satern grabbed 9 and 5 rebounds respectively.

With the win, Corban improves to 4-2, while George Fox falls to 1-1.  The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, November 26th, when they continue their home schedule against NCAA Division III member Linfield beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
