Senior All-American Eric Fiegi had a tough night against OIT as he made a season-low 7 field goals, but did not connect on 14-out-of-16 free throws to finish with a game-high 28 points. |
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Senior All-American and reigning NAIA Division II Player of the Week Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) scored a game-high 28 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as Corban’s men’s basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped by Oregon Tech, 102-87, on Danny Miles Court.
Fiegi, the NAIA Division II all-time leader in career field goals, finished with a season-low 7 field goals, but was 14-for-16 from the charity stripe. Playing his final regular season game in Klamath Falls, the 6-foot-9 South Medford High School graduate ran into a tough OIT defense that used its “6th man” (aka the crowd) as an extra defender that attempted to get the soft spoken, red head off his game.
Trailing by 8 (50-42) at halftime, fourth-year head coach Justin Sherwood and his band of merry men came out of the locker room and watch the host Hustlin’ Owls quickly run the margin up to 14 thanks to back-to-back three-pointers. The Warriors could not get any closer and settled for the final margin of 15.
Senior Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) and junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) added 19 and 18 points, while freshman Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) poured in 5.
Corban (15-13 overall, 9-8 CCC) shot 28-for-59 (47.5%) from the field, including 12-for-26 (46.2%) from beyond the arc and 19-for-23 (82.6%) from the free throw line.
Oregon Tech (21-8 overall, 10-7 CCC) was led by Andre’ Lawrence’s 25 points, while Levell Hesia added 19 points and a game-high 11 assists. Four Hustlin’ Owls, including Lawrence, Hesia, Danny Mills (18 points) and Ryan Fiegi (14 points), scored in double figures, as Joshua Wetzler pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds.
OIT was 40-for-77 (51.9%) from the field, including 12-for-31 (38.7%) from behind the 3-point line and 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, February 18th, when they travel to Ashland for their final regular season contest against Southern Oregon beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be carried live on KWBX 90.3 FM Salem and over the Internet via Stretch Internet.
