Warriors follow Fiegi to victory over Thunderbirds of Cascade

SALEM, Ore. – Senior All-American Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) recorded game highs of 42 points and 19 rebounds, as he led Corban’s men’s basketball team to a season-high fourth straight win thanks to a 104-94 victory over the Thunderbirds of Cascade College on Friday night.
The 6-foot-9 South Medford High School graduate shot 14-for-25 from the field and in the process moved into 2nd place on Corban’s all-time career field goals attempted chart. Fiegi moved past current head coach Justin Sherwood with 2,085 career attempts and is now 354 attempts away from passing former Warrior Brian Hills (1993-97) for the top spot.
Fellow seniors Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) and Joel Worcester (Eugene, Ore.) combined to score 40 points, as Lynn scored 25 and Worcester chipped in with 15. Junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) added 10 points off the bench, while freshman Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) added 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Corban (14-12 overall, 8-7 CCC) led by as many as 24 points with 17:18 left in the game before the visiting Thunderbirds went on a run and got within 4 (93-89) with two minutes remaining. Worcester hit a clutch 3-pointer from the wing to put the Warriors up for good. Tough defense and key foul shooting allowed the Warriors to capture their third straight conference win and pulled them within 1 game of Oregon Tech for 3rd place in the CCC standings.
The Warriors shot 35-for-74 (47.3%) from the field, including 10-for-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc and 24-for-28 (85.7%) from the free throw line. The visiting Thunderbirds shot 35-for-79 (44.3%) from the field and 18-for-23 (78.3%) from the charity stripe.
Cascade (5-22 overall, 1-14 CCC) was led by Joshua Garrett’s 37 points, while Casey Britton, Jin Voeks, and Darren Russell added 13, 10, and 10 points respectively. Voeks capped off his double-double performance with a team-high 11 rebounds, while three other Thunderbirds grabbed 4 rebounds each.
The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, February 11th, when the host the NAIA’s No. 3-ranked Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Corban will honor its three seniors – Fiegi, Lynn and Worcester – in a pre-game ceremony, as they will don a Warrior uniform for the final time at home during the regular season.
