SALEM, Ore. – Senior Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) recorded game-highs of 36 points and 19 rebounds, but it was not enough as Corban’s men’s basketball team fell to Eastern Oregon, 88-84, on Saturday night at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
The All-American Fiegi had an off shooting night, as he shot 11-for-27 from the field, but made up for it at the free throw line thanks to a performance of 14-for-16. The 6-foot-9 South Medford High School graduate scored 18 points in each half, while pulling down 11 first half rebounds and 8 second half boards.
Corban held a 7-point advantage (41-34) at halftime following a 15-for-37 (40.5%) performance from the field, but could not contain a hot shooting Eastern Oregon squad that was 18-for-30 (60.0%) from the field over the final twenty minutes. The visiting Mountaineers grabbed a 12-point lead, their largest lead of the game, with 6:30 left before Corban mounted a mini-comeback that was too little, too late.
Senior Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) was the only other Warrior in double figures with 17 points on 5-for-14 shooting from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the 3-point line. Senior Joel Worcester (Eugene, Ore.) and junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) scored 8 points each, while freshman Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) scored 7 points (all in the first half). The 6-foot-4 Dallas High School graduate got the crowd to their feet when he scored on a two-handed fast break dunk midway through the first half.
Corban shot 27-for-73 (37.0%) from the field, while Eastern Oregon shot 31-for-62 (50.0%). Each team made 7 shots from long distance, while Corban held the advantage from the free throw line, 23 to 19.
Six different Eastern Oregon players scored in double figures, as Mark Carollo led the Mountaineers with 17 points. Tanner McIntosh, Kyle Janke, Maurice Thomas, Chad Fairbanks, and Eric Orton added 15, 13, 12, 11, and 11 points for Eastern Oregon, while Fairbanks pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
With the loss, Corban falls to 10-11 overall, 5-6 in conference. Eastern Oregon improves to 11-6 overall, 6-4 in conference. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, January 27th, when they host the Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
