Second half of conference season begins with win for Warriors over 'Yotes

Junior Brad Reynoso scored a season-high 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point line.

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) scored 41 points and hauled down 15 rebounds, as Corban’s men’s basketball team opened the second half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule with a 98-92 win over Albertson College of Idaho on Friday night.

The All-American Fiegi shot 17-for-23 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line, as he scored 19 first half and 22 second half points.  The 6-foot-9 South Medford High School graduate owned the paint, as he bodied up with the smaller Albertson players on numerous occasions and spun his way to easy jump shots and lay-ins.

Corban held a 5-point advantage (41-36) at halftime following a 17-for-33 (51.5%) performance from the field and continued their hot shooting thanks to a shooting percentage of 63.0% (17-for-27) over the final twenty minutes.

Senior Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) and junior Brad Reynoso (Salem, Ore.) combined to score 29 points, as Lynn recorded 17 and Reynoso knotched a season-high 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field that included 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point line.

Corban shot 34-for-60 (56.7%) from the field, while Albertson shot 33-for-76 (43.4%).  The visiting ‘Yotes held the advantage in 3-point shooting, 13 to 8, but the Warriors evened things out from the free throw line thanks to a 22-13 advantage.

Five different Albertson players scored in double figures, as Dan McFaul led the ‘Yotes with 23 points before fouling out late in the game.  Ike Stafford, Brandon Nielson, Bryan Champ, and Josh Owen added 21, 16, 15, and 14 points for Albertson, while McFaul pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

With the win, Corban improves to 10-10 overall, 5-5 in conference. Albertson falls to 10-10 overall, 4-5 in conference.  The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, January 21st, when they host the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
