SALEM, Ore. -- Behind All-American Eric Fiegi’s (Medford, Ore.) 24 second-half points and the hot shooting of teammates Chris Lynn (Kent, Wash.) and Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.), Corban’s men’s basketball came from behind to beat The Evergreen State College, 81-68, in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday night.
Fiegi, who didn’t score until the 14:17 mark in the second half, finished with 8-for-11 from the field and 8-for-12 from the free-throw line. The 6-foot-9 center broke the NAIA Division II all-time field goal record with a basket in the lane with 12:05 in the game, and now has 1,093 for his career. The previous record was 1,085, held by Derek Voegel.
Lynn, who pumped in a game-high 31 points, was 10-for-14 from field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. Sisler hit for 22 points and added a game-leading 5 assists for the Warriors.
The Geoducks led 32-31 at halftime, as Fiegi played only 7 minutes in the opening period and Evergreen took advantage, shooting 51.9% (14-for-27) from the field and getting much of its early offense inside.
Lynn, Fiegi, and Sisler accounted for 77 of Corban’s total points, and senior Joel Worcester’s (Eugene, Ore.) 2 free throws late in the game were the only points scored by a Warrior besides the trio in the second half. Corban shot 57.1% (16-for-28) from the field after the break, as the three-some nailed 16 field goals in 22 attempts to lead the Warrior second-half charge. Corban out-rebounded the visitors 35 to 24, with Fiegi leading all players with eight.
Pat Mattson led Evergreen with 17 points and Thomas Cook added 11 for the Geoducks.
With the win, Corban improves to 8-8 overall, 3-3 in CCC play. Evergreen falls to 4-12 overall, 1-6 in CCC play. The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, January 7th, when they host Northwest beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
