Douglas & Martin not enough in loss to Eagles of Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) and freshman Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) scored 29 and 19 points respectively, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Eagles of Northwest, 92-86, Saturday inside The Pavilion to conclude the conference opening weekend.

Both Douglas and Martin led the Warriors with nine rebounds each, while the 6-foot-5 Douglas turned in a 13-for-21 shooting performance in 34 minutes of action.

Trailing by a mere two points (44-42) at halftime, Corban came out a shot an amazing 56.3 percent (18-for-32) from the field but could not overcome seven made three-pointers by the host Eagles over the final twenty minutes en route to falling by six points.

Along with Douglas and Martin's scoring performances, junior Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) and senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) each scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively as the guard tandem combined to shoot 9-for-17 from the field including 4-for-6 from beyond the three-point line.

On the boards, Braun and six other Warriors aided Douglas and Martin's rebounding performance with 8 and 2 rebounds respectively.

For Northwest, all five starters scored at least 12 points led by Eddie Coulsen's team-high 23 points while Luke Hammond, Pat Mattison, Greg George, and Chase Van Cleave added 18, 16, 13, and 12 points respectively. On the rebounding side of the ball, George and Mattison led the Eagles with 7 and 6 boards respectively.

As a team, Corban ended the night shooting 34-for-66 (51.5%) from the field to go along with the team's 5-for-12 (41.7%) performance from beyond the arc and the Warriors' 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Northwest turned in a 31-for-71 (43.7%) performance from the field, 13-for-31 (41.9%) showing from behind the 3-point line, and a combined 17-for-23 (73.9%) output from the free throw line.

With the loss, Corban falls to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest improves to 6-3 overall, 2-0 in CCC action. The Warriors will move away from conference play on Tuesday, December 4th, when Corban travels to Newberg to take on NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the Wheeler Sports Center.
