ASHLAND, Ore. - Following a two-game absence due to an injury, sophomore Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) scored a game-high 20 points off the bench only to watch as Corban's men's basketball team dropped its conference opener to the Red Raiders of Southern Oregon, 84-68, on Friday.

Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, the 6-foot-5 transfer from Treasure Valley Community College suffered a concussion in the Linfield game that dazed him for a few seconds and held him out of the Cannon Building Material Tournament in Lewiston, Idaho.

Fortunately for the Warriors, Douglas was back with vengeance tonight as he torched the Raiders' defense with a season-high in points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field.  Along with his game-high in points, Douglas also pulled down a team-high 4 rebounds in 19 minutes of action.

Along with Douglas, fellow sophomore Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) was the only other Warrior in double figures with 18 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field along with a 7-for-9 performance at the free throw line.

Corban held its largest advantage on the night on four separate occasions, as the Warriors clung to slim 2-point margins with the last one coming with 14:34 remaining in the opening half when Douglas hit a jumper.  The host Raiders then took the lead for good when Matt Cowell hit a 3-pointer with 13:35 on the clock before pushing its lead to as much as 14 (39-25) with 2:12 left following a Matt Espinoza trey.  Espinoza closed out the first half scoring with another bomb from long distance with 38 seconds remaining to give the host team a 13-point lead (44-31) heading into the locker room.

In the second half, Southern Oregon quickly pushed its lead to 23 points (71-48) when Matt Pizzola made a lay-up with 10:46 remaining. The visiting Warriors cut the lead to as little as 13 (73-60) when Douglas made his 10th and final field goal of the night with 6:09 on the clock.  Free throw shooting over the final six minutes, handed Southern Oregon its sixth victory of the season as the Raiders went 6-for-7 from the charity stripe over the final minutes.

Junior J.D. Hill (Lebanon, Ore.) and sophomore Jason Klontz (Redmond, Ore.) added 9 and 7 points respectively for the Warriors, while senior Nate Morris (Dufur, Ore.) teamed with Douglas on the boards grabbing a team-high 4 rebounds.

As a team, Corban shot 28-for-64 (43.8%) from the field, including 8-for-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.  Meanwhile, Southern Oregon shot 32-for-59 (54.2%) from the field, including 12-for-15 (80.0%) from the free throw line.  Both teams combined to shot 12-for-34 (35.3%) from beyond the 3-point line, as a quartet of Warriors each hit one shot from beyond the arc.

Southern Oregon was led by Espinoza's team-high 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, while Cowell and Erion Moore added 13 and 12 points respectively.  Espinoza pulled down a game-high 6 rebounds, while Cowell and three Raiders grabbed 5 and 4 boards respectively.

With the loss, Corban drops to 1-8 overall, 0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.  Meanwhile, Southern Oregon moves to 6-3 overall, 1-0 in CCC action. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, December 2nd, when they continue Cascade Collegiate Conference play against the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Oregon Institute of Technology beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Klamath Falls.
