LEWISTON, Idaho -
Sophomore Jason Klontz (Redmond, Ore.) scored a season-high 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to Lewis-Clark State, 74-56, in the opening round of the Cannon Building Material Tournament on Friday.
Tournament-host Lewis-Clark State led visiting Corban throughout the game in the match up of the two teams nicknamed the Warriors. LCSC, however, wasn't able to put the game away until late with a 16-0 run to make it a 71-51 lead.
Along with Klontz, fellow sophomore Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) added 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field, including a 2-for-4 showing from beyond the 3-point line. Freshman Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.), senior Kevin Van Hook (Silverdale, Wash.), and sophomore Garrett Kauffman (Sweet Home, Ore.) chipped in with 8 points each.
LCSC held a 43-31 rebounding advantage and had 19 offensive rebounds to just four for Corban, but Braun and Kauffman combined for 16 of the Warriors' 31 total rebounds with each player grabbing 8 boards. LCSC also forced 22 turnovers, which helped LCSC attempt 25 more shots from the field. LCSC finish 29-for-70 (41.4%) from the field, while Corban was 19-for-45 (42.2%).
Lewis-Clark State was led by Teran Lee's game-high 20 points off the bench on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Steve Thompson and Mike Gordy added 14 and 10 points respectively for the host Warriors, while Thompson and Chris Pitts pulled down 9 and 8 rebounds respectively.
With the loss, Corban drops to 1-6 overall, while L-C State moves to 3-2 overall. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, November 25th, when they conclude their play in the Cannon's Building Material Tournament against Montana State University-Northern beginning at 6:00 p.m.
