McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Sophomore Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) scored a team-high 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and handed out 7 assists, but Corban's men's basketball team fell to NCAA Division III member Linfield, 93-80, on Tuesday.
Despite having four players reach double figures, the Warriors could not pull off a victory on the road this evening. Douglas paced the Corban men’s basketball team in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks (1). Meanwhile, sophomore Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) recorded 15 points and sophomores Kyle Masten (Salem, Ore.) and Garrett Kauffman (Sweet Home, Ore.) each added 12 respectively.
The Warriors fell behind early as the Wildcats took a 20-point lead in the first half. A pair of free throws by Linfield’s Sten Morgan, with five minutes remaining in the half, gave his team the lead, 40-20. The Warriors responded to this by cutting the Wildcat lead to nine (52-41) before intermission.
Linfield held the lead for the entire second half, including a 17-point lead (60-43) roughly three minutes into the second period. However, Corban kept it close by moving to within seven (69-62) with just under 10 minutes left in the game after sophomore Jason Klontz (Redmond, Ore.) knocked down a jumper off of an assist from senior Kevin Van Hook (Silverdale, Wash.).
The Warriors shot 81.0% (17-21) from the charity stripe and notched seven three-point field goals collectively. However, the Wildcats nailed 53.0% (35-66) of their field goals behind Evan Timperly’s game-high 26 points.
The non-conference loss dropped the Warriors to 1-5 on the year, while Linfield moved to 1-1 overall. The Warriors return to action on Friday, November 24th, when they take part in the Cannon's Building Material Tournament against tournament-host Lewis-Clark State College beginning at 8:00 p.m. (MST). The game can be heard live on the Internet thanks to LC-State's partnership with AM 950 KOZE.
