LA GRANDE, Ore. – Freshman Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) scored a career-high 29 points on a perfect 9-for-9 shooting from the field, including 6-for-6 from beyond the arc, but Corban's men's basketball team fell to the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Eastern Oregon, 105-90, Saturday inside the Quinn Coliseum.

The 6-foot-1 freshman guard registered his career-high in 28 minutes of action to go along with senior Hannes Gehring (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who scored 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. Senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) and sophomore Paul Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) added 11 points each, as the duo combined to shoot 8-for-13 from the field that included a combined 6-for-9 from behind the three-point line.

In the opening half, neither team took control through the first 4:45 as the score was knotted at 14-all following a three-pointer by Corban's Clay Martin with 15:15 on the clock. A mini 4-0 run in less than a minute by Eastern Oregon handed the host Mountaineers an 18-14 lead with 14:18 remaining. Corban got back within a mere point (33-32) via a three-pointer by junior Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) with just over six minutes to go in the first half. Unfortunately, EOU used a 17-8 run over a span of 5:42 to take a 10-point lead (50-40) with 22 ticks left on the clock. Paul Martin capped the opening stanza's scoring with a three-pointer with two seconds remaining, but Eastern Oregon took a seven-point advantage (50-43) into the locker room.

In the second half, junior Kyle Masten (Salem, Ore.) knocked down his lone shot of the game -- a fast break three-pointer -- to pull Corban within four points (50-46) a mere 79 seconds into the final twenty minutes. Over the next 1:50, Eastern Oregon used an 11-0 run to pull ahead by 15 points (61-46) and never looked back as the visiting Warriors could not get any closer than nine points (79-70) following a fast break lay-up by Paul Martin with 8:53 remaining in the contest. The nationally-ranked Mountaineers pushed their lead to as much as 20 points (96-76) via a fast break three-pointer by Neil Fryer with just under six minutes left before settling for the final margin of 15 points (105-90) following back-to-back free throws by Corban freshman Bryan Martin (Salem, Ore.) with 66 seconds hanging on the clock.

The aforementioned quartet were the only Warriors to score in double figures, as Corban's leading scorer junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) was held to a mere eight points on 4-for-10 shooting from the field. Meanwhile, freshman Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.) added seven points to go along with Braun and Masten's three points each. Clay Martin pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while Logan and Gehring grabbed four and three boards respectively for the Warriors.

Eastern Oregon was led by Mark Carollo, who scored a game and team-high 30 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the field to go along with a 5-for-6 showing from beyond the arc and a 3-for-4 performance at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Fryer added 23 points to go along with the other three Mountaineers starters -- Paul Carollo (18 points), Josh Landsverk (13 points), and Jeremy Templeton (10 points) -- that each scored in double figures. Paul Carollo, who twenty-four hours earlier set the all-time rebounding record in Eastern Oregon history, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while Steve Sawyers and a pair of Mountaineers pulled down seven and five boards respectively.

As a team, Corban shot 32-for-60 (53.3%) from the field including a season-high 16-for-28 (57.1%) from beyond the arc and 10-for-16 (62.5%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Eastern Oregon turned in a 38-for-66 (57.6%) performance from the field that included a 13-for-20 (65.0%) showing from three-point land and a 16-for-22 (72.7%) showing from the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban falls to 9-17 overall, 4-12 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon improves to 20-4 overall, 13-3 in CCC action. The Warriors will hit the hardwood again on Friday, February 15th, when Corban hosts the NAIA's No. 24-ranked Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
