EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) scored a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists, as Corban's men's basketball team erased a four-game losing streak with a wire-to-wire 72-59 victory over the Beacons of Northwest Christian on Saturday.

After a pair of early season losses to the Beacons, Corban came out tonight with revenge on its mind and quickly erased all doubts about their chances of losing three times in one season to the same opponent.

After scoring the game's first five points via a 3-point basket by junior J.D. Hill (Lebanon, Ore.) and a jumper by Douglas, Corban rolled to a commanding 12-point advantage (18-6) in the opening 6:27 of the game.  A jumper by junior Hannes Gehring (Lake Oswego, Ore.) with 12:06 remaining handed Corban its largest lead of the opening twenty minutes (20-8) before the host Beacons began to mount a comeback.  Over the next 9:17, Northwest Christian used an 18-10 run to get within four points (30-26), but a 5-0 Warrior run fueled by another jumper from Douglas and a long distance bomb by Hill secured a 9-point advantage (35-26) for Corban with 1:11 on the clock.  Northwest Christian got a jumper from Erik Quick-Warner with 39 seconds to go in the opening stanza, as Corban took a 7-point lead (35-28) into the locker room.

In the second half, Corban kept the USCAA's No. 5-ranked Beacons at bay thanks to a 3-pointer by senior Kevin Van Hook (Silverdale, Wash.) that handed the Warrior an 8-point lead (38-30) with 17:57 left in the contest.  Both teams battled back and forth over the next four-plus minutes before Douglas gave the Warriors their second eight-point lead of the final twenty minutes (42-34) with 13:29 on the clock.  Northwest Christian kept Corban's lead to single digits for most of the final half before the Warriors pushed the advantage into double digits via a jumper by senior Brad Reynoso (Salem, Ore.) with 7:21 left that gave the visiting Warriors a commanding 56-46 lead.  Corban continued to apply the pressure and snagged its largest lead of the game (65-47) following a pair of Douglas free throws with 4:22 showing on the game clock.  With a sizeable lead, fifth-year head coach Justin Sherwood cleared off the bench and allowed all fourteen active players to see playing time, as junior reserve and crowd favorite Joey Jackson (Creswell, Ore.) scored the game's final points on a jumper with 23 seconds left in the contest for the final margin of 13 (72-59).

Along with Douglas' team-high 22 points, sophomore Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) and Hill added 14 and 10 points respectively.  Douglas led all players in rebounding with 8, while Reynoso and a trio of Warriors -- Braun, senior Nate Morris (Dufur, Ore.), and sophomore Kyle Masten (Salem, Ore.) -- pulled down 6 and 4 rebounds respectively.

As a team, Corban shot 26-for-50 (52.0%) from the field, including a 13-for-18 (72.2%) performance from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian shot 26-for-63 (41.3%) from the field, including 1-for-14 (7.1%) from beyond the 3-point line.

Northwest Christian was led by Jordan Humphrey's team-high 11 points off the bench on 4-for-8 shooting from the field.  Quick-Warner and a quartet of Beacons -- Andrew Miller, Josh Jarrett, Andrew Williams, and Wesley Ross -- added 7 and 6 points respectively, while Miller led Northwest Christian with a team-best 7 rebounds.

Thanks to its first win on the road this season, Corban improves to 3-21 overall. On the other hand, Northwest Christian sees its record return to the .500 mark at 10-10. The Warriors will return to conference play on Friday, February 2nd, when they host the Eagles of Northwest beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Corban's campus.
