RIDGEFIELD, Wash. – In rainy and cold conditions at Tri-Mountain Golf Course, Corban's men's and women's golf team concluded the second Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament of the season on Tuesday with senior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) finishing second individually.
After the men's squad posted back-to-back school-records in the opening two rounds of the tournament yesterday, both Corban teams were overcome by wet and windy conditions throughout today's third and final round.
"Today was just an ugly day," said third-year head coach Ron Sisler. "Both teams battled as best as they could considering the weather situation. Overall, I am pleased with the way that both teams played this week. We are showing a lot of potential and should be able to take this momentum and translate it into the spring season."
Once the final putt was dropped, Corban's men's team combined to score 19-over 307 led by Douglas and fellow senior Ben Sisler's (Corvallis, Ore.) even-par rounds of 72.
With his final round result, Douglas concluded the three-round event with a school-record 2-under 214 and finished alone in second place behind tournament medalist Tyler Austin of Concordia, who shot a school and conference-record 18-under 198.
Sisler tied with Concordia's Marc Arima for third individually thanks to a career-low three-round total of 1-under 215. Sophomore Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.) posted a third round score of 10-over 82 and dropped to eighth place overall thanks to a three-round total of 5-over 221. Junior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.), who posted a career-best 1-over 73 in the second round, rounded out the Warriors' scoring with a 9-over 81 to conclude the tournament in 15th place individually with a 23-over 239.
Senior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) posted a 10-over 82 in the final round, while freshman Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.), who played as an individual, turned in a score of 14-over 86 to finish 19th and tied for 16th respectively.
As a team, Corban posted a combined team total of 24-over 888 to finish as the runner-up behind tournament champions, Concordia.
On the women's side, Corban repeated its second round score with an identical 144-over 432 to finish third behind tournament champions, the University of Victoria, and tournament-host Concordia.
Sophomore Jordon Weldon (Klamath Falls, Ore.) posted the Warriors' best score of the day with a 30-over 102, while a trio of freshman -- Emily Stupfel (Salem, Ore.), Elizabeth Sherwin (Gresham, Ore.), and Morgan Bars (Grants Pass, Ore.) -- rounded out Corban's scoring with a 35-over 107, 38-over 110, and 41-over 113 respectively.
Individually, Sherwin and Stupfel anchored the Warriors with a three-round total of 104-over 320 to finish tied for 12th overall, while Weldon and Bars were separated by a mere stroke -- 111-over 327 versus 112-over 328 -- once the tournament's final scorecard was signed. The University of Victoria's Anne Balser took home medalist honors with a three-round total of 9-over 225 en route to beating out Concordia's Lindsey Aho by five strokes.
Corban will return to the links on Monday, October 29th, when both the men's and women's teams go head-to-head with the Beacons of Northwest Christian in a dual match at Emerald Valley Golf Course beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Creswell.
