RIDGEFIELD, Wash. – For the fourth time this season, Corban's men's golf team set yet another school-record with a combined 5-under 283 in the second round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament at Tri-Mountain Golf Course on Monday.
Wasting no time today, the Warriors turned around less than five hours after setting a school-record with a combined team total of 10-over 298 in the opening round and continued to drop Corban's team scores on a round-by-round basis this season.
Led by sophomore Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.), senior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) and senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.), who shot identical 2-under 70s in today's closing eighteen holes, the Warriors also got a 1-over 73 performance from junior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) en route to posting a program-best 5-under total.
Along with the single round record, Corban also posted a school-record 36-hole score with a combined 5-over 581 to break the previous mark of 35-over 621 on the opening day of last season's NAIA Region I Tournament.
Senior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.), who posted a 12-over 84 in the opening round, rebounded with a 9-over 81 to go along with freshman Steve Landis' (Gladstone, Ore.) afternoon-ending 8-over 80. Landis completed his fifth collegiate round ever and played as an individual for the fourth time.
After the opening day, Corban is in second place behind tournament-leader Concordia, who put together back-to-back team totals of 10-under 278 and holds a 25-stroke lead heading into the tournament's final round.
Individually, Schroeder, who turned in a school-record 3-under 69 in the opening round, sits tied for second with Concordia's Marc Arima after carding a two-round total of 5-under 139 to set a 36-hole school-record. Douglas and Sisler find themselves in 5th and 6th place respectively thanks to a Day #1 total of 2-under 142 and 1-under 143. Landis is tied for 13th place following a two-round combined total of 10-over 154, while Furumasu and Greenslade are in 17th and 19th place respectively.
On the women's side, freshman Morgan Bars (Grants Pass, Ore.) turned in the best turn-around from one round to another with a team-low and school-record 28-over 100 to lead the Warriors to a combined team total of 144-over 432 in the second round. Along with Bars, fellow freshmen Elizabeth Sherwin (Gresham, Ore.) and Emily Stupfel (Salem, Ore.) carded second round totals of 34-over 106 and 35-over 107 respectively. Rounding out Corban's scoring was sophomore Jordon Weldon (Klamath Falls, Ore.) with a 47-over 119.
After the opening two rounds, Corban trails first-day leader, the University of Victoria, by 239 strokes as the Canadian-based Vikings shot a combined 28-over 315 in the second round to extended its lead to three strokes over tournament-host Concordia. The University of Victoria's Anne Balser grabbed the overnight lead thanks to a 1-over 73 in the second round and leads Concordia's Lindsey Aho by four strokes.
The third and final round will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16th, with a shot-gun start.
