WILDER, Idaho – After sitting in a three-way tie for fifth after the opening round, Corban's men's golf team posted its second best round of the season led by freshman Joey Duwe's (Kingston, Wash.) even-par 72 in the second round of The College of Idaho Invitational Monday at River Bend Golf Course.

Despite shooting a second round combined team total of 18-over 306, Corban dropped one spot to sixth overall a mere one shot behind Treasure Valley Community College. The Warriors' two round total of 53-over 629 is third among Cascade Collegiate Conference schools behind Concordia (27-over 603) and Northwest Christian (45-over 621).

For the fifth straight round, Duwe carded the team's lowest score thanks to the first even-par round of his collegiate career on the 6,861-yard par 72 course.

Duwe's second round performance catapulted him into a three-way tie for third place along with Concordia's Brad Bachmann and Walla Walla Community College's Mike Noreen. The trio is tied with a combined two-round total of 2-over 146, which is four strokes off the clubhouse lead heading into the third and final round.

Along with Duwe, fellow freshman Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) posted his second straight round of 6-over 78 and sits tied for 13th with a combined two-round total of 12-over 156.

Sophomore Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) jumped up seven spots and sits alone in 24th place after carding a second round score of 3-over 75. Following an opening round 13-over 85, Landis rebounded in the second round to post the Warriors' second lowest score of the day.

Meanwhile, freshman Michael May (Salem, Ore.) continued to show improvement on a round-by-round basis with a second round score of 9-over 81 to sit in a tie for 33rd at 23-over 167.

One stroke back of May in a tie for 36th place is senior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.), who rebounded from a 16-over 88 in the opening round with a closing 18-hole total of 9-over 81 to match May's second round performance.

Heading into the third and final round, Corban is a combined 36 strokes off the lead that is head by Walla Walla Community College at 19-over 595. WWCC leads Concordia by eight strokes after the two teams shot identical scores of 10-over 298 in the second round. The Cavaliers sit 13 strokes ahead of Northwest Christian, who struggled to the sixth highest score of the second round but held its hold on third place by two strokes over Northwest Nazarene (619-621). Treasure Valley and Corban are separated by a mere stroke, while sitting 22 strokes better than tournament-host The College of Idaho (75-over 651) and 33 strokes better than Warner Pacific (86-over 662).

Individually, Northwest Christian's Justin Ahrens holds the clubhouse lead heading into the third and final round despite shooting a second round score of 2-over 74. Ahrens' opening round 2-under 68 was the best score of the day, but the second-year Beacon players holds a mere three stroke lead over Concordia's Marc Arima heading into the final 18 holes of the tournament.

Corban's men's golf team will conclude play at The College of Idaho Invitational on Tuesday, October 7th, with the third and final round beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
