First-ever CCC tournament underway in Idaho

WILDER, Idaho – The first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference men's and women's golf tournament is underway at River Bend Golf Course, as Corban's men's team is sitting 12 strokes back after the opening round of play with senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) registering a team-low 2-over 74 on Monday morning.
In his first collegiate tournament since the 2006 NAIA Region I Championships, Sisler open with a 4-over 39 on the front nine before concluding the beginning 18 with a 1-under 35. Sisler recorded five birdies in his morning round to go along with seven pars, five bogies, and one double bogey.
Along with Sisler, sophomore Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.) carded a score of 7-over 79 thanks in part to a 1-over 37 on the closing back nine of the morning round. Senior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) opened his final season as a Warrior with a 9-over 81 that included a tournament-best nine hole score of 4-under 32 on the back nine. Douglas recorded the second eagle of the day on the 502-yard par five 13th hole, as the 6-foot-3 senior turned in a three. Closing out the scoring quartet for the Warriors was senior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) with a 12-over 84.
As a team, the Warriors turned in a 30-over 318 after the opening round and sits a mere 12 strokes behind first-round leader Concordia, who turned in an 18-over 306 to best NCAA Division II member Northwest Nazarene by a stroke.
Junior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) rounded out the competitors for the Warriors, as he carded a 13-over 85 while, freshman Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) played as an individual and ended his first-ever collegiate round with a 9-over 81.
Concordia's Tyler Austin is the opening round leader with an even-par 72, while Northwest Christian's Justin Ahrens is one stroke back with a 1-over 73.
On the women's side, Corban turned in a three-person score of 121-over 347 to sit fourth at the conclusion of the opening round.
Freshman Elizabeth Sherwin (Gresham, Ore.) and sophomore Jordon Weldon (Klamath Falls, Ore.) each recorded opening rounds of 37-over 109, while freshman Morgan Bars (Grants Pass, Ore.) ended her first-ever collegiate round with a 57-over 157.
The first round leader is Concordia's Lindsey Aho thanks to a 12-over 84 followed by teammate Amy Esmeier with a 13-over 85.
Round #2 will conclude this afternoon with another 18 holes of golf before the third and final round will tee off on Tuesday, September 18th, at 8:30 a.m.
