BLUE RIVER, Ore. – Despite a third-place showing individually by freshman Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.), Corban's men's and women's golf teams finished the first Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament of the season Tuesday at Tokatee Golf Club with the men's squad finishing in third place overall.

The Northwest Christian Invitational, which was the first CCC event of the season, was won individually by Concordia's Marc Arima thanks to a three-round total of 11-under 205. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers of Concordia also took the men's team title thanks to a combined total of 30-over 894.

Duwe, who posted back-to-back scores of 3-over 75 in the opening two rounds, came back in the third and final round with a 4-over 76. Unfortunately for Duwe, he went into the final round with a two-stroke cushion for second place and was out dueled by three strokes by Northwest Christian's Brent McKee in the final round to finish third overall in the individual standings.

Along with Duwe, fellow freshman Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) carded a final round 6-over 78 to finish tied for eighth individually. The 6-foot-3 first-year player put together three steady rounds (78-76-78) for his final total of 16-over 232 to tie with three other players.

The Warriors' lone senior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) began his final season at Corban with a 14th place showing after posting a final round total of 7-over 79. Furumasu ended with a combined three-round total of 21-over 237 (80-78-79) and missed a top 10 finish by a mere five strokes.

Sophomore Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) finished two strokes behind Furumasu after posting a final round score of 9-over 81. Landis concluded the season-opening event at 23-over 239 (83-75-81), which included tying for the team-low with a second round score of 3-over 75.

Freshman Michael May (Salem, Ore.), who was playing as the Warriors' individual, concluded his first collegiate tournament tied for 24th after turning in a final round score of 15-over 87. May's second round score (6-over 78) was his first sub-80 score ever in competitive play.

Junior Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.) finished all alone in 27th place thanks to a three-round total of 37-over 253 (81-89-83).

Team-wise, Corban clung to a 12-stroke lead heading into the final round before shooting a combined third round score of 26-over 314. Thanks to the Warriors' final round performance encompassed with Northwest Christian's final round total of 13-over 301, the host Beacons grabbed second place in the final team totals by a mere stroke over Corban (931-932). Meanwhile, The College of Idaho (104-over 968) and Warner Pacific (111-over 975) rounded out the team scoring on the men's side.

For the women, freshman Morgan McComish (Salem, Ore.) rebounded from a second round 28-over 100 with a final round total of 23-over 95 to finish all alone in 14th place. McComish's final round score was two strokes off the school record, which was set last season.

Fellow freshman Amber Meeker (St. Helens, Ore.) completed her first collegiate round in the third and final 18 holes, but it did not count as she had to withdraw from the competition during the opening round due to an injury.

In the team scoring, Concordia took home the title thanks to a combined score of 140-over 1,004 versus The College of Idaho's 180-over 1,044. Corban, Northwest Christian, and Warner Pacific were not able to field full teams, which left the race for the crown between the Cavaliers and Lady 'Yotes.

Individually, Concordia’s Lindsay Aho out dueled Northwest Christian’s Ashley King by five strokes for medalist honors. Once the final putt was dropped, Aho's final round 8-over 80 extended her one-stroke overnight lead that she had accrued as King turned in a third round score of 12-over 84.

Corban's men's & women's golf teams will tee it up again in the two-day Linfield Invitational (Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 27-28) that is being played at Michelbrook Country Club in McMinnville beginning at 12:30 p.m.
