Duwe & Dudley right ship for Warriors at NCU Invite

BLUE RIVER, Ore. – The freshman duo of Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.) and Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) led Corban’s men’s and women’s golf teams posting scores of 6-over and 10-over respectively after the opening day of the Northwest Christian Invitational Monday at Tokatee Golf Club.

Duwe, who posted a three-over 75 in the first collegiate round of his career, came back in the second round with an identical three-over 75 to sit all alone in second place by two strokes. The 5-foot-9 first-year player leads Northwest Christian’s Brent McKee by two strokes heading into the third and final round despite trailing the clubhouse leader, Concordia’s Marc Arima by 17 strokes.

Along with Duwe, Dudley carded an opening day total of 10-over 154 to finish in the top five. After carding an opening round total of 6-over 78, Dudley turned things around over the final 18 to post a 4-over 76 in his second-ever collegiate round of competitive golf.

Senior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) carded an opening day total of 14-over 158 and sits tied for 13th after a second round total of 6-over 78.

Along with Furumasu, sophomore Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) is also tied for 13th after posting an opening day total of 14-over 158 thanks to an 11-over 83 and a 3-over 75.

Freshman Michael May (Salem, Ore.) rebounded over the day’s final 18 holes with a 6-over 78 after posting an opening round total of 11-over 83. The first-year Warrior is tied for 18th thanks to a two-round total of 17-over 161.

Junior Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.) is all alone in 28th place after carding an opening day total of 26-over 170 thanks to a 9-over 81 and a 17-over 89.

Team-wise, Corban trails the clubhouse leader Concordia by 21 strokes (597-618) and is ahead of Northwest Christian by 12 strokes. Warner Pacific (62-over 638) and The College of Idaho (73-over 649) round out the team scoring after the opening two rounds.

Individually, Concordia’s Arima posted a two-round total of 11-under 133 and sits as the clubhouse leader after shooting an opening round of 6-under 66 and a second round 5-under 67. Arima’s opening round was three strokes off the course record, while his 36-hole total is two strokes shy of the conference record.

For the women, freshman Morgan McComish (Salem, Ore.) is playing as an individual for the Warriors and sits all alone in 14th place thanks to a two-round total of 52-over 196. McComish’s first collegiate round ended with a 24-over 96, which was three strokes off the school record.

Fellow freshman Amber Meeker (St. Helens, Ore.) competed for the first 12 holes, but had to withdraw due an injury.

In the team scoring, Concordia sits 29 strokes ahead of The College of Idaho (670-699) after the opening day.

Individually, Concordia’s Lindsay Aho overcame a one-stroke deficit after Round #1 to lead by a mere stroke heading into the third and final round over Northwest Christian’s Ashley King.

Corban will tee it up again on Tuesday, September 16th, with the third and final round beginning at 8:00 a.m.
