Warriors 9th, Sisler 14th after day one at Regionals

Junior Ben Sisler sits tied for 14th and is a mere seven strokes behind the leaders after carting a two-round total of 3-over-par 147 at the NAIA Regionals at Christina Lakes Golf Course

CHRISTINA LAKES, B.C. – Junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) shot a team-best 3-over 147 in leading Corban’s golf team to a 9th place showing and a team total of 68-over 644 after the opening day at the NAIA Region I Tournament at Christina Lakes Golf Course.

Sisler opened the tournament with a morning round of even-par 72, which was a career-low for the junior from Santiam Christian High School. The second-year player concluded the day by shooting a 3-over 75 on the second eighteen to finish tied for 14th individually and is a mere 7 strokes off the leaders -- Saare Adams from the University of Victoria, Rowe Sleeman of the University of British Columbia, and Jeff Smith of Lewis-Clark State College.

Senior Craig Paulsen (Klamath Falls, Ore.) shot an opening round 2-over 74, but struggled over the final eighteen and ended with a 16-over 88. Fellow senior Jason Swank (Albany, Ore.) carted a morning round of 10-over 82 and stayed steady in the afternoon with an 11-over 83.  Sophomore Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) fired a season-low 11-over 83 on his opening eighteen, only to fall prey to the course and ended the day with a 16-over 88. Freshman Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) concluded the Warrior participants with a 20-over 92 to kick off the two-day tournament and then rebounded slightly in the afternoon with a 15-over 87.

Despite a solid performance from Corban’s top player, the Warriors find themselves 76 shots behind the 1st round leader, the University of British Columbia.

The team totals after day one are British Columbia (8-under 568), Victoria (even-par 576), Lewis-Clark State (5-over 581), Simon Fraser (8-over 584), Concordia (18-over 594), Montana Tech (27-over 603), Rocky Mountain (29-over 605), Westminster (50-over 626), Corban (68-over 626), Albertson (69-over 645), Montana-Western (87-over 663), Great Falls (94-over 670), and Carroll (100-over 676).

Corban will conclude the two-day, three-round regional tournament on Tuesday, April 25th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Christina Lakes Golf Course in Christina Lakes, British Columbia.
