Sisler fires opening round of even-par 72 at NAIA Regionals

Junior Ben Sisler shot a career-low even-par 72 in leading Corban to a 7th place showing after round one of the NAIA Regionals at Christina Lakes Golf Course

CHRISTINA LAKES, B.C. – Junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) shot a team-best and career-low even-par 72 in leading Corban’s golf team to a 7th place showing and a season-low 311 after the opening round at the NAIA Region I Tournament at Christina Lakes Golf Course.

Paulsen shot a season-low 2-over 74, while fellow senior Jason Swank (Albany, Ore.) came in eight strokes higher at 10-over 82.  Sophomore Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) fired a season-low 11-over 83, while freshman Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) carted a 20-over 92.  Greenslade's score was used in the overall team total, while Furumasu was the alternate in Corban’s scoring.

Despite a solid performance from Corban’s top two players – Sisler and senior Craig Paulsen (Klamath Falls, Ore.) – the Warriors find themselves 28 shots behind the 1st round leader, the University of British Columbia.

The team totals after round one are British Columbia (5-under 283), Victoria (1-over 289), Lewis-Clark State (1-over 289), Concordia (9-over 297), Rocky Mountain (17-over 305), Montana Tech (17-over 305), Corban (23-over 311), Westminster (26-over 314), Albertson (32-over 320), Montana-Western (33-over 321), Carroll (42-over 330), Great Falls (48-over 336), and Simon Fraser is incomplete as the Clan is missing one score from the opening round.

Corban will tee it up again for another 18 holes this afternoon and will conclude the regional tournament with on Tuesday, April 25th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Christina Lakes Golf Course in Christina Lakes, British Columbia.
