Swank and Sisler lead Warriors to 2nd place finish at CU Invitational

PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Jason Swank (Albany, Ore.) and junior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) shot a 4-over 76 and a 5-over 77 respectively in leading Corban’s golf team to a second place finish at the Concordia Invite featuring Concordia University, Corban College, and Central Washington University at Heron Lakes Golf Course.
This was the final regular season tune-up for Corban before the Warriors head north of the border for their second-ever NAIA Region I Tournament.
Despite a solid performance from Corban’s top pair it was not enough, as Concordia shot a match and season-low 6-under 282 en route to winning the three-team event. Corban finished second with a team total of 34-over 322 to finish seven shots ahead of Central Washington.
Senior Craig Paulsen (Klamath Falls, Ore.) shot a 12-over 84, while freshman Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) and sophomore Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) turned in rounds of 13-over 85 to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
Craig Dehning of Concordia took medalist honors with a 5-under 67, while Stephen Connor and Tyler Austin carted rounds of 2-under 70 and 1-under 71 respectively. Mark Guthrie and Marc Arima rounded out the Cavalier scoring with a 2-over 74 and a 4-over 76 respectively. Guthrie’s score counted in the overall total for Concordia, while Arima came in as the alternate.
Central Washington finished the match with a team total of 41-over 329 and was anchored by Zack Worrell’s 7-over 79. Brett Lusebrink carted an 8-over 80, while Jason Peterson and Matt Britt rounded out the Wildcat scoring with 13-over 85s. Kevin Knight carted a 14-over 86 as the alternate, while Josh Sanford turned in an 18-hole score of 23-over 95 as an individual.
Concordia also sent four players as individuals -- Brad Bachman (even-par 72), Dan Scobie (5-over 77), Tim Leinhos (5-over 77), and A.J. Lightheart (9-over 81) -- that combined to shot a 19-over 307.
Corban will hit the links again on Monday and Tuesday, April 24th & 25th, when they compete in the two-day, three-round NAIA Region I Tournament. The all-day event with take place at Christina Lakes Golf Course in Christina Lakes, British Columbia.
