MONROE, Ore. – Senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) finished in the top 10 at a conference event for the third straight time thanks to a 14-over 230, as Corban's men's golf team finished third at the Cascade Collegiate Conference #3 Qualifier tournament Tuesday at Diamond Woods Golf Course.
Tournament-host Corban competed in its first 54-hole tournament of the season, as the Warriors went head-to-head with the NAIA's No. 20-ranked Concordia, Northwest Christian, and The College of Idaho in this season's next-to-last conference qualifying tournament.
Sisler, who began the day alone in sixth place, fell one spot after posting a final round total of 4-over 76 that included a 1-under 35 on the front nine before faltering a bit on the back nine with a 5-over 41. The senior co-captain's three-round total was a mere two shots out of the top five and eight shots out of the top three individually.
Meanwhile, junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) finished tied for 10th along with Concordia's Dan Scobie after posting a final round score of 8-over 80. A three-round total of 21-over 237 placed the senior co-captain in the top 10 individually for the third straight conference tournament.
Freshman Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) rebounded from back-to-back 80-plus performances in the opening two rounds with a final round total of 7-over 79. Thanks to his final round score, Landis leapt into a tie for 13th individually with The College of Idaho's Ben Coate thanks to a combined total of 33-over 249.
Senior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) carded his lowest round of the tournament with a final 18-hole total of 10-over 82 to finish all alone in 16th place thanks to a three-round total of 35-over 251.
Junior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) carded his second round of 13-over 85 in this week's three-round tournament and finished 17th individually thanks to a combined total of 36-over 252.
Sophomore Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.), who competed as the Warriors' individual player, rebounded from a second round score of 23-over 95 to post a final round total of 17-over 89 and finished 20th individually with a combined three-round score of 51-over 267.
Concordia University's "A" team took home the team title thanks to a combined score of 23-over 887 that included three straight rounds of 298-or-less. Concordia's "B" team outlasted tournament-host Corban by a mere two strokes to claim the runner-up spot thanks to a three-round team total of 95-over 959.
Corban's final team total of 97-over 961 was 82 strokes better than The College of Idaho, who finished fourth after Northwest Christian was unable to field a full four-person team after withdrawing a player before the final round began due to illness.
Individually, Concordia's Tyler Austin took home the medalist honors after leading from wire-to-wire thanks to a combined score of 4-under 212. Austin, who posted his sixth straight round of par or better in conference play, outlasted fellow teammate Marc Arima after he posted a final round low of 1-under 70 to jump into second place thanks to a three-round total of 2-over 218. Rounding out the top five were Northwest Christian's Justin Ahrens (6-over 222), Northwest Christian's Brent McKee (8-over 224), and Concordia's Craig Dehning (12-over 228) respectively.
Corban will return to the links on Saturday, April 5th, for the Corban Spring Invitational at the OGA Golf Course at Tukwila beginning at 10:00 a.m. against fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference member Northwest Christian and NCAA Division III member George Fox.
