Warriors trail after opening day of CCC #3 tourney

MONROE, Ore. – Senior Ben Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) carded an opening day total of 10-over 154, as Corban's men's golf team trails Concordia's "A" team after the first day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference #3 Qualifier tournament Monday at Diamond Woods Golf Course.
Playing its second straight Monday 36-hole round, the Warriors came out and posted an opening 18 combined score of 41-over 329 before rebounding for a closing 18-hole total of 17-over 315.
Sisler opened the day with an 8-over 79 before rebounding with a second round team-tying low of 3-over 75. The senior currently sits alone in sixth place, a mere five strokes out of the top five and seven strokes out of the top three.
Meanwhile, junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) carded an opening round score of 12-over 85 before rebounding with a team-tying low 3-over 75 in the afternoon. The senior co-captain is tied for eighth place along with Concordia's Andrew Wilson, eight strokes outside of the tournament's top five individually.
Junior Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) rebounded for a dismal performance at last week's Willamette Invitational and posted scores of 12-over 85 and 10-over 82 respectively. The junior is alone in 15th place individually and is nine strokes outside of the top 10.
Senior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) posted his fourth straight round in the 80s thanks to rounds of 11-over 83 and 14-over 86 respectively to sit tied for 16th along with Concordia's Tim Leinhos at 25-over 169.
Freshman Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.), who finished in the top ten at last week's Willamette Invitational, is alone in 18th place following the opening day after carding rounds of 15-over 87 and 11-over 83 respectively.
Sophomore Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.), who is competing as the Warriors' individual player, finished third on the team after the opening round thanks to an 11-over 83. Unfortunately, the length of 36 holes got to the sophomore as McGuire carded a closing score of 23-over 95 to finish 21st individually with a combined score of 34-over 178.
Team wise, Concordia University's "A" team is the clubhouse leader after the opening day thanks to a combined team score of 16-over 592. As a team, the Cavaliers posted a closing 18-hole score of 6-over 294 as three of the four competitors registered even-par rounds of 72. Northwest Christian sits alone in second place after posting a two-round total of 55-over 631, which is 11 strokes better than Concordia's "B" team, 13 strokes ahead of the Warriors, and 49 strokes better than The College of Idaho.
Individually, Concordia's Tyler Austin is the opening day leader after posting a two-round combined total of 3-under 141 that included the tournament's lowest score at 3-under 69 after the opening 18 holes. Northwest Christian's Justin Ahrens sits tied for second place along with Concordia's Craig Dehning after the duo posted a combined total of 3-over 147. Rounding out the top five are Concordia's Marc Arima (4-over 148) and Northwest Christian's Brent McKee (5-over 149).
Corban will return to the links on Tuesday, March 25th, for the final round of the conference's third qualifying tournament of the season at Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe beginning at 8:00 a.m.
