Sherwin sparks Warriors to sixth place showing at Willamette Invitational

WOODBURN, Ore. – Freshman Elizabeth Sherwin (Gresham, Ore.) fired a two-day total of 63-over 207 to go along with senior Caylin Bankston's (La Grande, Ore.) 71-over 215, as Corban's women's golf team finished sixth at the Willamette Invitational Sunday at the OGA Golf Course.

After opening the two-day event with a combined team score of 158-over 446 Saturday at the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) Golf Course, the Warriors dropped sixteen strokes off their team score with a combined 142-over 430 Sunday.

Sherwin, who finished 19th individually, fired rounds of 29-over 101 and 34-over 106 for her two-day total. Meanwhile, Bankston finished tied for 22nd individually thanks to rounds of 36-over 108 and 35-over 107 for her two-round performance.

Along with Sherwin and Bankston, freshman Emily Stupfel (Salem, Ore.) finished the event tied for 24th individually after firing rounds of 50-over 122 before rebounding with a team-low 29-over 101 on the final day.

Sophomore Jordon Weldon (Klamath Falls, Ore.) rounded out the Warriors' scoring with rounds of 43-over 115 and 47-over 118 for a two-day total of 89-over 233.

Freshman Morgan Bars (Grants Pass, Ore.) competed as an individual for Corban and carded scores of 50-over 122 before dropping six strokes during the final round with a 44-over 116.

Overall, Pacific University took home the team title for the second straight week with a combined two-day total of 141-over 717 which was seven strokes better than the University of Puget Sound. Individually, Willamette's Whitney Ueno took home medalist honors with a combined 16-over 160 after firing back-to-back rounds of 8-over 80, which was three strokes better than tournament runner-up Brynn Hurdus of Linfield.

Corban will return to the links on Monday and Tuesday, March 24th & 25th, as the Warriors host the third conference qualifier of the season at Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe beginning at 8:00 a.m.
