Warriors continue to improve against Concordia

SALEM, Ore. – Freshman Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.) shot a 6-over 78 to lead the men's team and fellow freshman Jordon Weldon (Klamath Falls, Ore.) carted a 36-over 108 to lead the women's squad, but Corban fell in a dual match with fellow conference member Concordia at Salem Golf Club on Wednesday.
In just the second tournament of the season for the Warriors, Schroeder led a Corban men's squad that fired a 40-over 328 with junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) turning in the only other sub-80 score for the host team. Douglas carted a 7-over 79, while sophomore Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) and junior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) brought home scores of 12-over 84 and 15-over 87 respectively. Freshman Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.) rounded out the scoring the for Warrior men's team with a 20-over 92.
As a team, Concordia's men's team took home the victory with a combined 25-over 313, as Craig Dehning took home medallist honors with an even-par round of 72. Fellow Cavaliers Brad Bachman (6-over 78), Tim Leinhos (8-over 80), Dan Scobie (11-over 83), and Andrew Wilson (11-over 83) rounded out the scoring for the visiting squad from Portland.
In the women's field, Concordia captured its second straight team title with a combined score of 70-over 358, as the Cavaliers' Kim Lindow recorded the low round of the day with a 12-over 84. Fellow Cavaliers Amy Esmeier (16-over 88), Kim Tilton (18-over 90), Liz Emberlin (24-over 96), and Alissa Snyder (27-over 99) rounded out the scoring for the nationally-ranked Concordia squad.
Along with Weldon, senior Hallie Hofferd (Bend, Ore.), junior Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.), and freshman Jennifer Talbert (Roseburg, Ore.) concluded the 18-hole event with scores of 39-over 111, 43-over 115, and 50-over 122 respectively.
Corban will return to the links as part of the annual Willamette Invitational this weekend, as the women's team will compete at the Oregon Golf Association Course in Woodburn on Saturday, March 17th, and Sunday, March 18th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. respectively. Meanwhile, the men's squad will play 36 holes on Monday, March 19th, at Creekside Golf Club in Salem beginning at 9:00 a.m.
