Soccer duo recognized as conference and regional POWs

SALEM, Ore. – Corban College junior Scott Marshall (Bend, Ore.) and sophomore Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Wash.) have been named Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA Region I men’s and women’s soccer Players of the Week respectively, as announced today by Sam Ghrist, CCC and Region I Sports Information Director. This is the second time this season that Marshall has received these honors.
Marshall (pictured upper right), who returned from a 3-game absence due to a knee injury, appeared in both games last week for Corban and netted his second hat-trick of the season with a 3-goal, 1-assist performance in the Warriors’ 6-1 win over Albertson College of Idaho on Friday. So far this season, Marshall has scored a team-high 14 goals and handed out 3 assists, in recording a team-high 31 points.
The 5-foot-11 Redmond High School graduate currently sits 3rd on the career goals list with 46, 2nd on the career assists chart with 22, and 3rd on the career points listing with 113.
Waunch (pictured lower right) appeared in all three games last week and helped guide the Warriors to three straight wins, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games. In Corban’s 2-1 win over NCAA Division III member Western Oregon, Waunch scored the game-winning goal in the 17th minute. In Friday’s 3-1 win against Oregon Tech, Waunch had a hand in all three Warrior goals thanks to a 2-goal, 1-assist performance as Corban clinched a spot in the CCC playoffs. On Saturday, Waunch scored the first goal in a 2-0 victory over Southern Oregon, as Corban captured its second straight South Division crown and clinch home field advantage for the 1st round of the playoffs.
The 5-foot-4 Black Hills High School graduate finished her second collegiate season with 7 goals, which tied senior Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) for the team lead, while handing out 4 assist and recording 18 points. In two seasons at Corban, Waunch has scored 18 goals, handed out 11 assists, and recorded 47 points. She is currently tied for 10th with former Warrior Julie Baird in career goals and ranks 10th in career points.
This is the fourth time this season that a member of either the Corban men’s or women’s soccer team has received either conference or regional accolades for their performance on the field. This is the second straight week that a member of the women’s soccer team has been named conference Player of the Week. Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) won the award last week.
