October 19, 2005
SALEM, Ore. – Corban College junior Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) has been named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Libero of the Week for the first time in program history, as announced today by Dawn Harmon, NAIA Sports Information Director.
This is only the second time in school history that a women’s volleyball player has been named National Player of the Week, as Kim Turin was awarded that honor last season.
Horn was also named Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA Region I Libero of the Week, as announced by Sam Ghrist, CCC and Region I Sports Information Director. This is the second time this season that Horn has received conference honors.
Horn, who came to Corban from Clackamas Community College, appeared in two matches last week and helped lead the Warriors to back-to-back wins.
Horn anchored the Warriors’ back line with a team and match-high 36 digs without committing a passing error in helping Corban earn their fifth win of the season – a 3-1 (31-29, 24-30, 30-20, 30-27) victory over Warner Pacific. Horn also recorded 3 service aces in 19 attempts, with only 1 error.
The 5-6 Reynolds High School graduate continued her stellar performance 24-hours later in the Warriors’ 3-game sweep (30-27, 30-27, 30-19) of Cascade, as she posted a team and match-high 17 digs without committing a passing error. Horn also recorded 3 service aces on 17 attempts without an error.
In the two matches, Horn posted a team-high 53 digs (avg. 7.57), while executing errorless passing in 39 attempts (1.000 passing percentage).
So far this season, Horn has recorded a team-high 408 digs, which ranks her 6th on the all-time single season record list and is a mere 5 digs away from breaking into the top five. Horn leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference with an average of 6.28 digs per game and is on pace to break the single season digs record set last season by Jamie Ruda.
