Mr. Nelson,

I am a four time college All-American. Twice at North Idaho College, 2nd at the 2001 NJCAA National Tournament and 3rd in 2003. I won back-to-back NAIA National Titles at Montana State-Northern in 04 & 05. Was voted  Most Outstanding Wrestler Award  at the 2005 NAIA National tournament.

The last two years I coached at Oregon State University, helping the Beavers win the Pac-10 Championship, first time since 1994. Currently I am the head assistant coach at Sprague H.S. in Salem, OR. I graduated from Sprague H.S. and grew up in Albany, OR, giving me a well known name as a competitor and coach in this area as well as the nation. In college, I was  team captain  of three National Championship teams, 3-out-of-4-years.

I believe with my drive, experience and credibility, I could run a very successful national power college wrestling program at Corban College. Title 9 can be beat by also starting a women's wrestling program. I can send you a packet I have created, breaking down all the benefits to adding wrestling to your institute. Thanks for your time, please write me back regardless or forward this email to the appropriate person. Thanks again

Stryder
Salem, OR

Stryder,

Thank you for an interest in starting a wrestling program at Corban College.  At this time, there are no plans in the near future to add wrestling to our current athletic program.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks, John.

Mr. Nelson,

I am a junior at Northwest Christian HS in Lacey, Wa, and I am looking for colleges with good baseball programs. So I was just wondering what your team is like. Is the coach any good? How is the team? Do they recruit more for defense or offense?

Preston
Lacey, WA

Hi Preston,

We have had a baseball program for over 32 years.  Even I played on it back in the 70's.  Over those past years it has seen it's ups and downs.  About 10 years ago the college made an intentional effort to enhance the program to be more competitive.  Because of that decision, we built a really nice baseball facility and have raised our financial aid to recruit better baseball players that fit the program and college.  Coach Nate Mayben (an alum of the college) has been our head coach for 2 years and is building a solid base for the program.  We play in one of the strongest baseball regions in the NAIA yet Coach Mayben is steadily getting the job done well.

If you are interested in a good solid education and baseball program in which you will grow academically and spiritually, I highly suggest you contact Coach Mayben. I also would like you go get onto our athletics website at www.gowarriorsgo.com for information on our baseball program as well as filling out the prospective athlete form. When possible this spring, plan a visit for a day to the campus which would really give you a good feel for the campus, baseball team, and academic programs. We are always searching for quality young men who are passionate about their goals (baseball, academics, spiritual growth) and would allow us to help make them happen.

If further questions, let me know and I look forward to meeting you when on campus.

Thanks, John.

Mr. Nelson,

Do you have tryouts for basketball or exactly how does recruiting take place?

Ramius
Spanaway, WA

Mrs. Miller,

As for all sport's teams at Corban College, potential student-athletes work directly with the specific sport's coach.  I encourage all those interested in our Warrior teams to contact the coach as soon as possible for team information.  Each coach will have all the necessary information about recruiting, eligibility, tryouts, etc...

Go to our website at www.gowarriorsgo.com for contact information.

Thanks. John

Mr. Nelson,

Are there tennis courts on campus? Are they all uncovered? Are there clubs nearby with good tennis facilities and opportunities to compete?

Tori
St. Helens, OR

Tori,

Yes, there are tennis courts on campus but not of "serious tennis" quality. I would recommend them only for recreational type play. However, there are several clubs in Salem with indoor courts and an easy drive from campus.

Thanks. John

Mr. Nelson,

Do you have cheer leaders at Corban?

George
Orange, CA

George,

Currently, Corban College does not have a cheerleading program. We have had a program in the past and if there is sufficient interest from our students, we would consider reinstating and developing the program again.

Thanks. John
